2007 North American Robot Safety Conference Alert

Earlybird and RIA Member Conference Registration Savings Available; Tabletop Reservations Being Accepted

ANN ARBOR, Michigan - The Robotic Industries Association (RIA) and the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) will co-sponsor the North American Robot Safety Conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, March 26-28, 2007. Some 175 participants are expected to attend the conference, workshops, and tabletop trade fair. RIA members are entitled to a $50 savings on conference registration and free or discounted tabletops for those exhibiting.

This is the fifth time this major robot safety conference in Canada will be presented. The annual spring safety event encompasses three days of training, providing the opportunity to share in mitigation strategies presented by experts who have devoted their time and expertise to the implementation and continual improvement of safety systems in automated environments.

The Workshops

The 2007 North American Robot Safety Conference has both pre- and post-conference workshops scheduled. Topics range from the CSA Z460 standard on Control of Hazardous Energy, Essentials for Conducting PHSR's, the Z434 Robot Safety Standard, an Introduction to Risk Assessment and Control Reliability, Basic Safety Circuit Design, and a Risk Assessment Exercise, all on Monday, March 26. The Wednesday afternoon (March 28) workshops include coverage of Z432, Using Risk Assessment in Safeguarding Automated Systems, and Advanced Safety Circuit Design.

The Conference

Conference sessions for Tuesday and Wednesday (AM), March 27 and 28, include Robot Safety Developments, Safeguard Selection and Use, a Ministry of Labour Update, a Safe Distance Tutorial, an Overview of Safety Control Circuitry, and a Committee Panel Discussion featuring Z432, Z434, and Z460 Committee members and speakers. Case Studies will be woven throughout the conference covering robotic automation and safety implementations.

''We hope those interested will be able to join us for an exciting selection of presentations on robot safety, standards, successful robot applications and information important to everyone associated with industrial safety,'' said Jeff Fryman, Director of Standards Development for RIA. ''Information presented is 100% usable in the United States, plus you have the opportunity to hear about robot safety from a number of experts, all in one location.''

This year's safety program is designed to help engineers, technicians and managers learn how to improve efficiency while maintaining a safe environment. It also stresses what value safety standards have to a company, and helps in understanding them through the in-depth, topic-specific workshops. The 2007 North American safety event takes a comprehensive look at the CSA Z434 robot safety standard - Industrial Robots and Robot Systems, with a strong focus on user safety.

Earlybird conference and workshop registration pricing is available through February 26, 2007. Each full conference registration receives a complimentary copy of the new CSA Z434 standard. The pre- and post-conference workshops are available as separate registrations, or as options with the three-day pass to the entire Conference.

Tabletops Exhibits

The Tabletop Trade Fair of products will take place on Tuesday, March 27 during the expanded Conference lunch hour from 12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. This special opportunity permits attendees to review the latest in robot and robot safety products from the leading suppliers in the industry. ''The tabletop exhibits have become one of the most popular features of this safety event, providing attendees on-the-spot expert help in selecting the proper solution and matching needs,'' according to Jim Adams, RIA Marketing Manager.

About RIA

Founded in 1974, RIA is the only trade group in North America organized specifically to serve the robotics industry. Member companies include leading robot manufacturers, users, system integrators, component suppliers, research groups, and consulting firms. RIA is renowned worldwide as the sponsor of the Joseph F. Engelberger Robotics Awards, co-produces the biennial International Robots & Vision Show and Conference, June 12-14, 2007, plus many regional events, and is secretariat of the ANSI/RIA R15.06-1999 Robot Safety Standard. RIA is the sole source of North American robotics industry statistics based on information supplied by member companies and represent an estimated 90% of the North American robotics market. RIA has the industry's number-one Web site, Robotics Online at www.roboticsonline.com, with more than two million visitors per year.
