IBC 2014: R&S CLIPSTER Now with Watermarking and AS-11 Support

At the Amsterdam exhibition, the new features of the RS CLIPSTER mastering station will be focused firmly on protection: Thanks to its watermarking feature, RS CLIPSTER offers global tracing of the circulation of screeners. In addition, R&S CLIPSTER now also supports AS-11. This is essential particularly in the UK where this mezzanine format will be used as the mandatory contribution package from October.

Hanover – At this year's IBC, Rohde & Schwarz DVS will be showcasing its latest products under the headline of "Your 4K future starts here". R&S CLIPSTER has led the way in processing 4K files in real time already since 2005. In addition to the mezzanine format AS-02, the mastering station now also supports AS-11 (DPP), and can generate IMF (Interoperable Master Format) packages up to 4K.

The British Digital Production Partnership (DPP) initiative decided to implement AS-11 as the standard delivery format from October 2014. R&S CLIPSTER also supports this mezzanine format meaning British broadcasters do not need to change their workflows to meet this requirement. This format is of great interest to the US market too as programs are often produced there for the British market and they need to meet the same delivery format requirements from October.

R&S CLIPSTER's new watermarking feature offers maximum protection against piracy. This allows screeners to be traced globally and across all media, limiting potential financial damages by a considerable degree. The watermarking process used, which embeds the relevant rights-owner information directly in the content, can be performed as early as the IMF process. This ensures the highest possible protection is in place at a very early stage in the film post production and mastering chain. The watermarking process allows post production studios and rights owners to establish the authenticity of a file and ensure it is traceable.

IBC visitors will also get to see further new developments in the area of DCI Mastering: R&S CLIPSTER supports new raster frame rates – right up to 4K HFR. And when it comes to movies produced using high frame rates, users can also enjoy all the convenience and ease of DCI Mastering that they are accustomed to – including CLIPSTER's proven DCI validation tool which checks the quality and DCI compliance of DCPs (Digital Cinema Packages) immediately after they have been generated. Furthermore, R&S CLIPSTER offers an unprecedented frame rate when mastering high frame rate material in 4K. Besides video quality, R&S CLIPSTER also offers DCI-compliant audio support, with the mastering station supporting audio formats up to 192 kHz.

Timo Klages, Product Manager Post Production Solutions at Rohde & Schwarz DVS: "Our aim with CLIPSTER is to provide the ultimate in user-friendliness and protection. With the additional support of AS-11, we are entering the DPP discussion at an early stage. In doing so, our customers in the UK and the USA are already enjoying the best possible support from us. Protection is another topic which is especially important to us: The watermarking feature in CLIPSTER lets users trace their valuable files and protect their intellectual property."
