Davron Delivers Indexing Conveyor Oven to Global Automotive Company

(Chattanooga, Tenn.) — Davron Technologies, Inc. designed and manufactured the DTI-1213, an electrically heated infrared indexing conveyor oven that preheats composite material blanks, prior to press forming, for a Tier 1 automotive supplier. This is a new process and product for the customer and they partnered with Davron to develop their thermal processing solution. The DTI-1213 indexing conveyor oven enables Davron’s customer to process a part in a cycle time of 50 seconds.

The DTI-1213 features two heated positions inside the oven chamber. The heating system consists of four sets of nine infrared panels, two above and two below the product. Each IR panel has independent temperature control to allow for variation of heating across the entire surface of the product. The maximum operating temperature of the system is 400ᴼC (752ᴼF). The DTI-1213 features PLC control and all motion functions are controlled by servo for accuracy and speed. The overall system includes one load position at the entrance end of the oven, two positions in the heated chamber, and one unload position at the exit end of the oven.

The useable dimensions of the DTI-1213 are 6’2” wide x 26’0” long with a heated chamber length of 16’8”. The interior of the oven is made out of 16-gauge aluminized steel backed by six inches of eight-pound density mineral wool insulation. The exterior is constructed of 16-gauge carbon steel backed by a structural steel frame and finished with high-temperature paint. The oven includes four drawers that house the IR heater banks. These drawers slide out of the oven to allow access to the IR panels for maintenance. Also included are two access doors, on the side opposite the heater drawers, which provide access to the heated chamber.

Davron designed the DTI-1213 indexing conveyor oven based on three criteria provided by the customer: the production rate, the product size, and the operating temperature. Once the indexing conveyor oven was manufactured, Davron did extensive acceptance testing and training with the customer at Davron headquarters in Chattanooga, Tenn., prior to shipment. The oven was then prepared and packaged for shipment.
