GainSpan and GEO Semiconductor Introduce Full HD Video Application Development Kit

New ADK to be demonstrated at ISC West 2014

SAN JOSE, Calif. – GainSpan® Corporation, a leader in low-power Wi-Fi for the Internet of Things, and GEO Semiconductor, Inc., a semiconductor and software company specializing in camera and video solutions, today announced a Full HD resolution Video Application Development Kit (ADK) targeted at IOT applications in the surveillance, security and automotive markets.  The new ADK will be demonstrated at the International Security Conference 2014 (ISC West) being held in Las Vegas, Nevada, April 2 - 4, 2014.

The extremely low power Full HD video ADK is a complete hardware and software platform for the emerging IOT video applications, and accelerates time to market for customers seeking to add high-quality IP video streaming capabilities to their products. Example applications include battery powered Wi-Fi IP cameras, doorbell cameras, cloud cameras, automotive / backup cameras and toy cameras.

The GS2000 Full HD Video Application Development Kit (ADK) features the GS2000 SOC, and GEO Semiconductor MAX64380 H.264 encoder SOC. The ADK leverages the key advantages of the GS2000--high data rates supported in the 802.11b/g/n SOC, multi-mode connectivity, extremely low standby current and low power operation. The GEO Semiconductor MAX64380 features high dynamic range ISP and Full HD (1920 x1080p 30 fps) resolution, resulting in excellent video quality, full duplex audio processing and echo cancellation.

Service providers can realize new revenue generating opportunities by taking advantage of the cloud connectivity features enabled by the GS2000. The ADK enables features such as motion alerts, integration with cloud services for push notifications, live viewing or cloud storage. The GS2000 SOC acting as a concurrent Limited AP enables new applications by adding connectivity to other devices in the home such as thermostats, and a variety of sensors in the home like door/window sensors and dangerous gas sensors.

In addition to the GS2000MIZ module and GEO H.264 encoder, the new ADK includes a low-power mono audio codec, and mono 2.6W amplifier. The ADK supports multiple streaming protocols including the commonly used RTP/RTSP and UDP.

The ADK includes embedded software compatible with iOS and Android mobile applications for smartphone and tablets. The GainSpan embedded software running on the Wi-Fi module offers complete Wi-Fi functionality and networking stack and services. It also supports a complete suite of security protocols, including WPA/WPA2-enterprise and personal security modes, legacy WEP encryption and upper layer security protocols such as TLS/SSL and HTTPs.

"GEO Semiconductor is pleased to partner with GainSpan to provide products and solutions targeting the emerging markets, where low power and battery operated features are a requirement. We look forward to providing jointly developed solutions to the emerging IoT marketplace," said Ronald Allard, vice president of sales at GEO Semiconductor Inc.

"According to market research firm IHS, the global video surveillance market is forecast to reach more than $20 billion by 2017. We are seeing an emerging trend in Wi-Fi and battery operated cameras in the surveillance market." said Bernard Aboussouan, vice president of marketing, GainSpan. "Our collaboration with GEO brings together the lowest power Wi-Fi solution and industry-leading low power video encoder SOC to enable customers to quickly develop battery-operated cameras with Full HD video in reduced time."

GEO Semiconductor will demonstrate a Doorbell Camera application based on the new ADK at the ISC West 2014, April 2 -4, Bassano Level 2, Room 2708 in the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas.
