World Premiere: BITZER Ammonia Compressor Pack

The specialist for refrigeration compressors showcases its newly developed modular ammonia compressor units for industrial applications at IIAR

• New: oil separator and controller

• The BITZER ammonia compressor pack (ACP) is reliable, durable and efficient

• Comprehensive service and training concept

Nashville - For the first time, BITZER now offers a new range of compressor units for use with the natural refrigerant ammonia (R717). The BITZER ammonia compressor packs (ACP) are available with a capacity range of 100 to 450 TR. The new product series will be launched in North and South America within the next few months, followed by Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. After a period of intensive development, the innovative product is celebrating its premiere at the IIAR trade fair in Nashville, USA, where BITZER will be showcasing a fully functional ammonia compressor pack.

The modular compressor units comprise up to three compressors. For higher capacities, as many as three compressor packs can be connected (up to 9 compressors) and connected to a single controller, increasing the overall capacity up to 1200 TR. This is ideal for industrial systems.

Press Information

The primary compressor is equipped with a frequency inverter and insures optimal part-load performance. The compressor units are extremely efficient, as individual compressors can be turned on and off depending on requirements. In addition to the well-known BITZER compressors, the system also offers two new developments: both the oil separator and the controller were specifically developed for the ammonia compressor units.

Redundancy for high operating reliability

Multiple BITZER ammonia screw compressors increase the operating reliability compared to a single industrial compressor in the same performance class. Both the controller and the most important sensors are redundant to increase system reliability. The ammonia compressor packs are designed for use in areas subject to stringent requirements in terms of operating reliability. System downtime in the food and chemical industries, for instance, can result in high costs. The ACPs ensure greater reliability here in particular. The modular system also facilitates exceptional starting behavior:

The frequency-regulated primary compressor features an insignificant starting current peak. With automatic start unloading, the second and third compressors in the unit boast much lower starting current peaks compared to similar individual compressors providing the same overall cooling capacity. As a result, the starting current peaks are reduced by approximately one-third. Because the starting peak load is lower than that of conventional systems, components such as cables and contactors can be smaller, reducing installation costs. Monitoring the application limits with alarm and shut-off limits and operating parameters ensures maximum reliability. If the operating parameter limit is exceeded, the controller automatically takes countermeasures.

Durability and service

Additional benefits of the BITZER ammonia compressor packs include fast availability of all replacement parts and durability. And because nothing is costlier than a down system, every compressor part can be delivered within 24 hours via BITZER Quick Ship Service. But for BITZER, quality doesn't stop with the product. It also applies to the services. BITZER is initiating a comprehensive training concept to better acquaint ammonia specialists with the use of the new ammonia compressor packs.

BITZER Chief Technology Officer Rainer Große-Kracht explains: "The biggest benefit for customers is that they now receive fully assembled, functional compressor units from BITZER, which can be quickly and simply installed on location."

BITZER Chief Financial Officer Dr Christian Wahlers says: "With our new R717 compressor units, we're taking advantage of another range of applications for our tried-and-tested ammonia screw compressors – and positioning ourselves in a segment that's new to BITZER."

BITZER US, Inc. is a subsidiary of the BITZER Group of 36 companies. BITZER is the world's largest independent manufacturer of A/C and Refrigeration compressors with sales companies and production sites for reciprocating, screw, and scroll compressors as well as pressure vessels all over the globe. In 2012, 3,046 employees generated sales of 639 million euros.
