- New Machine Targets Steel Mill and Stamping Industries -
Cincinnati, Ohio - The recent addition of a 54,000 lb. Agma Vertical Mill has transformed Atlas Machine & Supply in Cincinnati into a major milling center for the Ohio region. Purchased at the International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago, the machine measures over 22-feet long and over 14-feet wide, making it one of the largest in the company and the largest in the Cincinnati shop.
The computer-controlled mill allows Atlas to be significantly more efficient with existing work. And because of its size, the mill is opening the door to new markets and customers in the region.
Sonny Welker, Division Manager in Cincinnati, said the machine will "make us stronger" as a company and is enabling Cincinnati employees to broaden their skills. It also allows for expanded work for steel mills and the stamping industry, Welker said.
The mill permits Atlas in Cincinnati to double its weight capacity for CNC milling, from 4,400 lbs. to 8,800 lbs. It also makes possible the repair of bigger, single pieces of work, ranging over 94" in length X over 39" wide in our Cincinnati shop. The mill table specifically measures 39.375" by 94.500," and has a work area of 86.625" X 39.375" X 31.500". Additionally, parts and fixtures up to 8,000 lbs. can be placed anywhere on the table without requiring even distribution.
Some of the other special features of the Agma mill are:
o Fanuc OiMC control - Contains canned cycles for conversational programming and dynamic Graphic features
o Absolute zero Servo Motors I n X, Y, Z Axis - Provides for standard three-axis machining and up to five-axis capability
o 1000 PSI Coolant through the Spindle - Keeps the cutting tools cooler, even in deep drilling and machining operations
o 30-Horse power geared Spindle - Adds increased rigidity and torque required for heavy cutting and provides a maximum of 6,000 RPM for lighter, faster cuts
o Accuracy up to .0003" in X, Y, Z axis
