June 2012 Equipment Leasing Index shows decline in confidence.

Monthly Confidence Index for Equipment Finance Industry reflects overall market confidence of 48.5 in June, down from the May index of 59.2. Decline reflects growing concern over European debt crisis, U.S. unemployment, and regulatory and political uncertainty. In survey, 8.1% of executives expect improvement in business conditions over next 4 months, down from 17.1% in May. NTSB Forum aims to improve general aviation search and rescue.

On July 17-18, 2012, NTSB will hold forum that will concentrate on examining regulations, policies, and procedures at Federal level and serve as platform to facilitate dialog between search organizations, technology manufacturers, and industry groups on issues currently impacting general aviation community. BIO congratulated member companies Elevance Renewable Sciences, Inc. and Codexis, Inc. on receiving 2012 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards for pioneering advances in applying industrial biotechnology to manufacturing. Elevance Renewable Sciences received Small Business Award for producing high-performing, renewable specialty chemicals at advantageous costs, while Codexis received Greener Synthetic Pathways Award for efficient biocatalytic process to manufacture simvastatin. RIA announces new group of certified robot integrators.

Ellison Technologies Automation, Intelligrated Systems Inc., and Progressive Machine and Design are the newest group of robotic integrators to receive Certified Robot Integrator designation from RIA. According to Jeff Burnstein, President of RIA, in order to become certified, integrators go through rigorous process which includes on-site audit, safety training, and hands-on testing of key personnel among other important criteria. John Horsley applauds USDOT Under Secretary nomination.

AASHTO Executive Director John Horsley praised President Obama's nomination of Polly Trottenberg as U.S. Department of Transportation's Under Secretary for Policy. Trottenberg is currently assistant secretary for transportation policy at USDOT, where she focuses on surface transportation reauthorization, livability, high-speed rail, the TIGER program, and freight policy development. She spent 12 years working in U.S. Senate and also served as Executive Director of Building America's Future. Read More

NAM Says Affordable Energy will create jobs.

NAM Senior VP of Policy and Government Relations Aric Newhouse said that Domestic Energy and Jobs Act, H.R. 4480, "will increase our nation's energy production, which will lower energy costs and create manufacturing jobs." Newhouse also called for "a real 'all of the above' energy strategy that includes all available energy sources, as well as creating infrastructure projects." Citing 8.2% unemployment, Newhouse said this is a chance to expand domestic energy production and create jobs. Read More
