ASTM Standard aims to resolve test result differences.

Proposed standard ASTM WK35585, Practice for Data Collection and Resolving Test Result Differences Between Buyer and Seller, will provide rational dispute resolution practice for contractors or material suppliers and agencies when test results from two different laboratories on same product differ. Some procedures described in standard include documentation to determine acceptable quality material, sample chain of custody, and determination of whether data comes from same population. Read More

Participating 41 state bioscience organizations aim to deliver industry-led life science education, workforce development, and entrepreneurship programs through nationally coordinated effort. Bill Parks to Lead Management Committee for 2014 IFPE.

Bill Parks, President of Deltrol Fluid Products in Bellwood, IL, was named chair of 2014 IFPE exposition. He will lead show's management committee, which is comprised of volunteer business executives who oversee show planning to ensure event meets needs of industry participants. To be held March 4-8, 2014 IFPE international exposition and technical conference is dedicated to integration of fluid power with other technologies for power transmission and motion control applications. Inductee Nominations Are Open for AEM Hall of Fame.

Nominations are open for 2012 inductees into AEM Hall of Fame, which honors individuals whose inventions, ideas, and leadership contributed significantly to growth and strength of off-road equipment industry. Whether living or deceased, eligible nominees will be evaluated on innovation, industry contributions, leadership, corporate citizenship/social responsibility, and sustainability. EPA and Partners announce My Air, My Health Challenge.

To help researchers, communities, and doctors better understand connection between air quality and person's health, EPA, NIEHS, and Department of HHS Office of the Coordinator for Health Information Technology announced nationwide challenge called My Air, My Health. Responders to challenge will propose designs for sensors that can be worn or carried, and take into account known or plausible link between airborne pollutants and health measurements in certain individuals or communities. Hydraulic Institute (HI), under approval of ANSI, seeks qualified participants for review of newly completed standard for design and application of Rotodynamic (Vertical) Pumps. Standard aims to provide design and application information for vertical pumps for various services. Document includes information applicable to vertical diffuser and submersible motor deep well and short-set pumps driven by vertical electric motors or horizontal engines with right angle gears. Industry Statistics reveal increasing demand for aluminum.

June 25, 2012

Preliminary estimates of total aluminum demand in U.S. and Canada for first quarter of 2012 totaled 5.8 million pounds, a 7.5% increase over first quarter of 2011. Compared to April 2011, net new orders of mill products reported by domestic producers increased 3.7%. Significant increase was seen in demand for semi-fabricated or mill products, which increased 7.9% over first quarter of 2011. In addition, domestic aluminum production increased slightly in April after slipping in January and February. Read More

IREC to Recognize innovative renewable energy projects/programs.

Each year, IREC recognizes individuals and organizations that have implemented innovative projects during past year that promote and accelerate adoption of renewable energy technologies. In 2012, IREC will present awards in 4 categories: Clean Energy Workforce Development, K-12 Education and Training, Community Renewable Energy Projects, and State and Local Government Initiatives. Entries are due by June 29, 2012, and eligible programs or activities must have been initiated during 2011. Read More
