Gene Haas Foundation announces $50,000 in scholarships.

To spur development of next-generation advanced manufacturing professionals, the Gene Haas Foundation announced $50,000 in scholarships to be awarded to high school seniors seeking a post-secondary degree in machining, advanced manufacturing, or engineering whose curriculum includes CNC machine technology training. SME announces changes within its media group.

Previously known as Manufacturing Engineering Media, SME’s media group has been renamed Advanced Manufacturing Media. Manufacturing Engineering magazine has also released its 2015 Media Kit with several portfolio changes. In 2015, there will be more emphasis on news and technical information about advanced manufacturing in North America. In January, SME’s media group will launch a new e-newsletter, which consolidates Lean, AeroDef, Quality, and Energy e-newsletters into single digital product. Read More

Registration for Team America Rocketry Challenge now open.

Open for teams of 7–12th grade students, Team America Rocketry Challenge encourages students to pursue study and careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. This year's rules require teams to build and launch a rocket carrying a raw egg to 800 ft and return it to Earth uncracked within flight duration of 46–48 sec. A new requirement calls for rocket to separate during flight, safely returning motor and egg to ground detached from one another in separate segments of rocket. Read More

EPA seeks feedback on proposed label options.

EPA is redesigning its Design for the Environment Safer Product label to better convey to consumers that products bearing the label meet program's rigorous standard to be safer for people and the environment. All ingredients in products that earn the logo have undergone a thorough evaluation to ensure they meet high standards for safety and performance. HI Announces Key Staff Changes in technical organization.

Hydraulic Institute (HI) announced retirement, effective April 30, 2015, of Technical Director Gregg Romanyshyn. Peter F. Gaydon has been appointed Standards Engineering Director. Effective September 8, 2014, Gaydon will be responsible for supporting Director, Technical Affairs, in providing staff leadership for accomplishment of HI's mission, vision, goals, and objectives focusing on HI's Strategic Plan. New York Company to receive funding for microgrid project.

General Electric Company’s Global Research has been selected to receive $1.2 million award by Department of Energy to develop enhanced microgrid control system by adding new capabilities, such as frequency regulation. In support of President Obama's Climate Action Plan and Administration’s commitment to improve national power grid resiliency, Energy Department announced more than $8 million for microgrid projects to help prepare for extreme weather events and electricity disruptions.
