Federal Electronics Challenge Award Winners save $7.8 million.

EPA and Office of the Federal Environmental Executive announced recipients of 2012 Federal Electronics Challenge Awards. Winners completed variety of electronics stewardship activities in fiscal year 2011, including purchasing more than 105,000 green electronics registered with EPEAT; enabling power saving sleep features on more than 97% of their computers and monitors; and recycling more than 361,000 lb of electronics, resulting in GHG emissions reductions and $7.8 million savings. Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) elected 6 industry leaders to its College of Fellows. According to SME's 2012 president LaRoux Gillespie, "The Class of 2012 SME Fellows exemplifies outstanding research, innovations, and leadership." Inductees include Dean L. Bartles, PhD, FSME; Ruxu Du, PhD, FSME; F. Brian Holmes, FSME, CMfgE; Fritz Klocke, Prof. Dr.-Ing., FSME; Steven Y. Liang, PhD, FSME; and Yung C. Shin, PhD, FSME. Aluminum Week to examine the road ahead.

Scheduled for October 15-18, Aluminum Week 2012 will be hosted by Aluminum Association, Aluminum Extruders Council, and Aluminum Anodizers Council. Event will feature Aluminum Association's Annual Meeting, AEC's Management Conference, and AAC's 21st Annual International Anodizing Conference. Nuclear Experts Invited to Participate in ISO TC 85 activities.

Nuclear Energy Standards Coordination Collaborative (NESCC) - joint initiative of ANSI and NIST - works to support the safe, sustainable expansion of nuclear power in U.S. ASTM International serves as ANSI-accredited administrator of U.S. TAG to ISO TC 85, Nuclear energy, and 3 of its subcommittees (SCs). U.S. TAG seeks experts to participate in ISO groups: TC 85, nuclear energy; TC 85, SC 2, radiological protection; TC 85, SC 5, nuclear fuel cycle; and TC 85, SC 6, reactor technology. Read More

Comments Sought for ISO field of activity on sludge treatment.

Association Fran├žaise de Normalisation (AFNOR), France's member body to ISO, submitted proposal for new field of technical activity on sludge recovery, treatment, recycling, and disposal. Proposed work area would cover field of application of lighting in specific cases complementary to work items of International Commission on Illumination (CIE) and coordination of drafts from CIE. ANSI invites interested stakeholders to submit comments on said proposal by September 21, 2012. Read More

Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles make rapid progress in range.

August 15, 2012

NREL completed 7-year project to demonstrate and evaluate hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles and hydrogen fueling infrastructure in real-world settings. National Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Learning Demonstration Final Report shows progress in extending vehicle driving ranges and increasing fuel cell durability. Project generated data from more than 500,000 individual vehicle trips covering 3.6 million miles traveled and 152,000 kg hydrogen produced or dispensed. Read More
