NEMA Reaffirms Commitment to energy-efficient lighting.

NEMA's Lamp Section reaffirmed its commitment to public policies that encourage energy-efficient lighting, including provisions of Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA 2007). EISA lighting provisions set phased-in, performance-based, technology-neutral standards that start in 2011 in CA and nationally between 2012 and 2014. They will continue to provide consumers with choice of energy-efficient lighting products, including high-efficiency halogen, CFLs, and LED products. Read More

International Medal awarded to Dr. Viacheslav N. Shishov.

Dr. Viacheslav N. Shishov, senior researcher at A. A. Bochvar All-Russia Research Institute of Inorganic Materials (VNIINM) in Moscow, Russia, was awarded the William J. Kroll Zirconium Medal from ASTM International Committee B10 on Reactive and Refractory Metals and Alloys. Shishov received this medal for his contributions to understanding and significance of irradiation-induced microstructural changes in Zr-Nb alloys used in nuclear reactors. Read More

Dr. Brady R. Cox receives C.A. Hogentogler Award from ASTM.

Brady R. Cox, Ph.D., assistant professor at the University of Arkansas, has received C.A. Hogentogler Award from ASTM International Committee D18 on Soil and Rock. Cox was honored along with his co-authors Kenneth H. Stokoe and Ellen M. Rathje for their paper, "An In Situ Test Method for Evaluating the Coupled Pore Pressure Generation and Nonlinear Shear Modulus Behavior of Liquefiable Soils," which was published in the Geotechnical Testing Journal in 2009. McNeeley, president and CEO of Chicago Tube and Iron Corporation, has been selected to receive IPD Award of Excellence, which was established to honor member for achievement specifically related to industrial and mechanical PVF segment of PHCP-PVF industry. Growth Trend Continues for ASA members in August 2010.

American Supply Association members reported growth for fourth consecutive month, showing 2.3% improvement in per-workday revenues during August 2010 compared to same month in 2009. However, plumbing, heating and pipe, valve, and fitting distributors are behind last year by 1.4% and 17.3% compared to 2008. Better than 2/3 of distributors report improved profitability compared to 2009, when almost all of the members reported reduced profitability. Read More

NBB and ABFA urge Senate to extend biofuels tax incentives.

NBB and Advanced Biofuels Association, in joint letter to U.S. Senate Democratic and Republican Leadership, today urged chamber to retroactively extend biodiesel, renewable diesel, and alternative fuels tax credits through 2011 before adjourning for upcoming midterm elections. Lapse of tax incentives on December 31, 2009 and Congress' inability to enact legislation extending these incentives has significantly harmed biofuels producers and has caused instability in the marketplace. HDMI Licensing, LLC now has 1,000+ licensed HDMI Adopters worldwide, 11% more compared to 2009. Consortium is also introducing online database tool, HDMI Product Finder, to help buyers, distributors, and resellers find HDMI-compliant products from licensed Adopters based on criteria such as features, functionality, and geographic region. Geographically, 30% of HDMI adopters are in China, 22% in Taiwan, 17% in North America, 13% in Europe and rest of world, 10% in Japan, and 8% in Korea. Read More
