IPC NA PCB Industry Report forecasts moderate growth through 2017.

IPC's 2013–2014 Analysis and Forecast for the PCB Industry in North America shows moderate decline in 2013 but forecasts moderate growth through 2017. On-shore PCB production increased slightly in 2013, and HDI/microvia boards experienced highest growth rate among PCB product types. Vertical markets data shows communications and military/aerospace as the 2 largest, collectively accounting for ~57% in 2013. R&D spending projections, up substantially for 2014, serves as positive indicator. Read More

FAA Awards $10.2 Million in Environmental Grants to 6 airports.

Albuquerque International Sunport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, Chicago O’Hare International, Dallas-Fort Worth International, Seattle-Tacoma International, and Yeager (WV) were awarded $10.2 million in FAA grants to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Through Voluntary Airport Low Emission (VALE) program, airport sponsors can use Airport Improvement Program funds and passenger facility charges to help acquire various airport-related air quality improvements. FAA Addresses Ebola Concerns with official statement.

In its statement regarding Ebola, FAA cited health and welfare of flight crews, airline workers, and traveling public as top priority. FAA also pointed out its work with CDC, aviation industry, and Federal government partners on issues of public health and disease awareness. FAQ topics included flight restrictions, FAA's authority limits, Ebola preparations being made by airlines, passenger health screening requirements, crewmember procedures, and airplane cleaning procedures. EPA releases GHG emissions data from large facilities.

EPA released fourth year of Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program data, detailing greenhouse gas pollution trends and emissions broken down by industrial sector, geographic region, and individual facilities. Data shows that in 2013, power plants remained largest source of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, with over 1,550 facilities emitting over 2 billion metric tons of CO2. Petroleum and natural gas systems were second largest stationary source, reporting 224 million metric tons of GHG emissions. Read More

EPA makes preliminary determination to regulate strontium.

EPA has made a preliminary determination to regulate strontium in nation's drinking water. Based on available information, agency has initially determined that strontium has adverse health effects. Strontium replaces calcium in bone, affecting skeletal development, which can be particularly detrimental to infants, children, and adolescents whose bones are still developing. Strontium has been detected in 99% of public water systems and at levels of concern in 7% of public water systems. Read More
