Department of Energy (DOE) requests public comments on preliminary framing document for its EV Everywhere Grand Challenge, which seeks to assist U.S. companies in development of convenient and affordable plug-in electric vehicles within next 10 years. Specific input is sought regarding overarching goal and metrics used to determine whether given electric vehicle (EV) is competitively priced, potential scenarios for EV deployment for achieving this goal, and DOE's supporting role. Pacific Rim Summit showcases role of Biomass in building economy.

Over 200 Companies Participate in inaugural Manufacturing Day.

More than 200 manufacturing companies participated in first annual Manufacturing Day, which was intended to highlight importance of manufacturing to U.S. economy and showcase jobs available in manufacturing fields. Across USA, manufacturers opened their doors to public to host open houses, public tours, career workshops, and other events. Global PCB Industry grew 2.4% in 2011.

October 9, 2012

According to World PCB Production Report released by IPC, approximately 2,600 fabricators produced an estimated value of $59.138 billion in PCBs in 2011. Printed circuit board production value declined 11.3% in the Americas, but grew 1.3% in Europe and 3.6% in Asia, which now accounts for 89% of world PCB production. Fastest-growing product categories in 2011 were metal core PCBs, high-performance rigid PCBs, and IC substrates. Rigid flex and CEM-3 production declined in 2011. Q4 Economic Outlook Report shows decelerating growth.

According to quarterly update to 2012 Equipment Leasing and Finance U.S. Economic Outlook, projected growth in equipment and software investment for 2012 is 6.7%, down from 2011 growth rate of 11.0%. Growth slowed to annualized rate of 4.8% in Q2, down from 5.4% in Q1. Report finds that recent slowdown in durable goods shipments indicates that equipment investment continued to lose momentum in Q3, but should remain positive—albeit at decelerated pace compared to 2011—through rest of 2012.
