Proposed Standard addresses medical equipment on aircraft.

Proposed standard ASTM WK27973, Specification for Environmental Performance of Medical Equipment for Use on Fixed and Rotary-Wing Aircraft, addresses effect of medical equipment on aircraft and effect of aviation environment on medical equipment. Proposed standard will allow manufacturers to design safe medical equipment for the aeromedical environment. Also, certification agencies will be able to recognize and/or adopt standard and encourage its use. Read More

ASTM International Committee F04 on Medical and Surgical Materials and Devices is developing 2 proposed standards for field of arthroplasty. ASTM WK28231 will provide information compiled from clinically successful elbow devices that includes materials, design philosophies, and surface finishes. ASTM WK28559 covers general test methods for chemical, biocompatibility, mechanical, and preclinical assessments of implantable devices with metal-on-metal articulation intended to replace hip joint. ASHRAE energy efficiency and sustainability standards were translated to promote green market in South America. ASHRAE's Argentina Chapter translated ANSI/ASHRAE/USGBC/IES Standard 189.1-2009, Standard for the Design of High Performance, Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, into Spanish. Additionally, ASHRAE worked with Green Building Council Brasil on Portuguese translation of Standard 90.1-2007, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings. Read More

NIST awards grant to support Green building technologies.

NIST Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership has awarded grant of $1.5 million over 3 years to Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center and NJ Manufacturing Extension Partnership to encourage expanded manufacturing of energy-efficient building technologies. Grant complements larger U.S. DOE project that provides up to $122 million to Pennsylvania State University for Energy Innovation Hub, which will focus on developing buildings that will save energy and cut pollution.
