Top Automotive Manufacturers to exhibit at International CES.

Consumer Electronics Association announced a record number of automotive manufacturers will exhibit at upcoming 2013 International CES®, scheduled for January 8-11. Seven of the top 10 manufacturers will showcase their latest technologies on the CES show floor, including Audi, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Kia, and Subaru, which is exhibiting at CES for the first time in 2013. Automotive exhibits will cover more than 100,000 net sq-ft of exhibit space in 2013, up 5% over 2012 show. Read More

AAMA Publishes QA Guidelines for polyamide thermal barriers.

AAMA has published QAG-2-12, Voluntary Quality Assurance Processing Guide for Polyamide Thermal Barriers. Developed to help architects, manufacturers, designers, and owners, this document establishes assembly guidelines for aluminum composites utilizing polyamide thermal barriers. Specific topics include handling and storage of polyamide thermal barriers, assembly equipment and machinery inspection, quality control, and handling and care of completed and assembled profiles. FAA Seeks Civil Penalty against GKN Aerospace Chem-Tronics, Inc.

November 12, 2012

FAA proposed $359,350 civil penalty for allegedly failing to conduct pre-employment drug tests and receive verified negative drug test results before hiring 17 people to perform safety-sensitive functions. Other allegations include failure to test 4 random individuals for alcohol use in January, April, and July of 2011; failure to carry out all requisite drug and alcohol testing for 2 employees as part of return-to-duty process; and inappropriate post-accident drug testing of 2 employees. ASABE Revises Standard on densified products for bulk handling.

American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) revised standard ASAE S269.5, Densified Products for Bulk Handling – Definitions and Methods, which was previously entitled Cubes, Pellets, and Crumbles - Definitions and Methods for Determining Density, Durability, and Moisture Content. Specifically, revision includes use of biomass pellets and cubes. Read More

Frozen Soil Symposium examines mechanical properties testing.

Sponsored by ASTM International Committee D18 on Soil and Rock, symposium on Mechanical Properties of Frozen Soil will take place January 31, 2013  Jacksonville, FL and provide forum for exchange of ideas on current research on the testing of mechanical properties of frozen ground. Johnson Space Center preparing for new era in space travel.

NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston is optimistic about a new era of space travel involving humans flying to faraway asteroids. According to Michael L. Coats, director of JSC, who will speak at ASME 2012 International Mechanical Engineering Congress in Houston, human space travel has received bipartisan support in U.S. Congress, and there are research programs under way to study adaptability of the human body to long-duration flights.
