FAA Selects Executives to foster safe UAS airspace integration.

Marke Gibson and Earl Lawrence have been selected by FAA for executive-level positions that will guide FAA's approach to safe, timely, and efficient integration of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) into U.S. airspace. Gibson will become Senior Advisor on UAS Integration and report directly to FAA Deputy Administrator. Lawrence will serve as Director of UAS Integration Office within FAA's Aviation Safety organization and lead efforts to safely and effectively integrate UAS into U.S. airspace. Read More

IPC Study of Quality Benchmarks for Electronics Assembly 2015 provides data to electronics assembly companies interested in comparing their quality measurements to those of other assembly companies by company size, region, and type of product. Student Rocketeers wanted for 2015-2016 rocket competition.

Registration for the Team America Rocketry Challenge is now open for teams of 7–12th grade students through December 4. TARC is the U.S. aerospace and defense industry’s flagship program designed to encourage students to pursue study and careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. This year's rules require teams to build and launch a rocket carrying 2 raw eggs to 850 feet and return them to Earth unbroken within flight duration of 44–46 seconds.

Tri-State and juwi announce power purchase agreement.

September 3, 2015

Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc., a wholesale power supplier, and juwi Inc., a Colorado-based renewable energy company, announced 25-year contract to supply the utility with renewable energy from the planned San Isabel Solar Project to be constructed in southern Colorado. Project will consist of more than 100,000 photovoltaic solar panels resting on 250 acres of land in Las Animas County. Tri-State will purchase entire output of 30 MW solar farm over life of contract. Read More

Hydraulic Institute Guideline for Rotodynamic Pump Efficiency Prediction HI 20.3–2015 helps users, specifiers, and purchasers of pumps understand what variables, design, and selection factors affect efficiency of rotodynamic pumps. Users will be able to calculate normally attainable efficiency and uncertainty band for variety of pump types. National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) reaffirmed ANSI C78.1406-2004 American National Standard for Electric Lamps—P28 Single-Contact Medium Prefocus-Based Projection Lamps for Base-Down Operation—Dimensions, which is available via downloaded and in hard copy. Developed by Accredited Standards Committee for Electric Lamps, said standard establishes dimensions essential to interchangeability of single-contact medium prefocus-based projection lamps of T10 and T12 bulb sizes. Developed by the Accredited Standards Committee for Electric Lamps, standard describes a system for classification of beam patterns and beam angles of reflector lamps. Dr. Dan E. Arvizu was honored at the 16th annual Wirth Chair Sustainability Awards Luncheon for his longtime leadership at NREL. The longest-serving director and chief executive in the research organization's history, Arvizu is retiring after 10 years at its helm. AAMA releases comparison of condensation ratings systems.

Department of Energy to Regulate circulator pump efficiency.

Hydraulic Institute (HI) led efforts to organize pump industry and facilitated data gathering and standards development required for Appliance Standards and Rulemaking Federal Advisory Committee (ASRAC)-negotiated energy conservation standard and test procedure for Commercial and Industrial Pumps (CIP). This proposed rule will eliminate least efficient 25% of CIPs and includes performance metrics for constant speed equipment without any controls and for variable speed equipment with controls. ANSI C78.1407-2004 American National Standard for Electric Lamps—Condenser-Reflector, Four-Pin Prefocus-Base Projection Lamps—Dimensions has been reaffirmed by NEMA.
