EPA Grants aim to reduce diesel emissions at ports.

September 26, 2014

EPA announced availability of up to $5 million in grant funding to establish clean diesel projects aimed at reducing emissions from marine and inland water ports located in areas of poor air quality. This is the second grant competition to focus on reducing emissions at ports under the Diesel Emission Reduction Act. Projects may include drayage trucks, marine engines, locomotives, and cargo handling equipment at marine or inland water ports. Read More

BIO announces breakout sessions and speakers.

Scheduled for December 7–9, 2014, Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy will feature breakout sessions focusing on commercialization of cleaner, safer processes and ingredients for developing consumer products. Sessions are organized into 5 tracks: Feedstock Production and Utilization; Renewable Chemical Platforms; Advanced Biofuels and Biorefinery Platforms; Synthetic Biology, Algae and Marine Biotechnology; and Technical and Research Presentations. BIO expresses concerns with Sunshine Act implementation.

BIO President and CEO James Greenwood joined AdvaMed President and CEO Stephen Ubl and PhRMA President and CEO John Castellani in letter to CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner highlighting ongoing concerns about potential lack of necessary context around Sunshine data release. Physician Payments Sunshine Act, section 6002 of Affordable Care Act of 2010, will provide transparency in industry collaboration with teaching hospitals, physicians; and report physician ownership and investment interests. NEMA publishes roadway and area lighting equipment standard.

NEMA published ANSI C136.13-2014 American National Standard for Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment—Metal Brackets for Wood Poles. Standard covers metal pipe, tubing, and structural brackets for wood poles designed to support luminaires of generally spherical, ellipsoidal, or rectangular shapes used in roadway and area lighting. AIA Presents 2014 Wings of Liberty Award to Rep Harold Rogers.

On September 18, Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) presented its Wings of Liberty Award to Representative Harold "Hal" Rogers (R-KY) to recognize his longtime support of aerospace and defense industry. AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey, citing his tenure as "a tremendous leader of our cause," said Rogers was "richly deserving of this year’s award" and noted his Appropriations leadership as well as his emphasis on putting national security first. AAMA and World Vision fill 500 backpacks for in-need children.

September 25, 2014

During AAMA 2014 Fall Conference, volunteers filled backpacks with school supplies to benefit children at a Title I elementary school in the Denver area. After including hand-written notes of encouragement for the current academic year, volunteers distributed the backpacks in person. This event was coordinated in partnership with World Vision, a humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities to help them reach their full potential. Samsung CEO to deliver keynote at 2015 International CES.

CEA announced that Boo-Keun Yoon, president and CEO of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., will deliver keynote address at the 2015 International CES®. Yoon is slated to discuss connected devices, future of the Internet of Things, and vision of the smart home. He will also focus on Samsung's vision of strategic partnerships that will drive next wave of technology breakthroughs. PMMI membership elected 3 members – Wayne Goldberg (Econocorp, Inc.), Emmanuel Cerf (Polypack, Inc.), and Jonathon Titterton (Bosch Packaging Technology, Inc.) – to PMMI Board of Directors for terms from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2018. Board of Directors chose Executive Committee for 2014; members of the current Executive Committee, in place since January 1, 2014, will continue to serve in their present positions for second one-year term (January 1 through December 31, 2015).
