TRFA announces Thermoset Polymer Research Award winner.

Mohamed Baqar, a Ph.D student at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, is the winner of the 3rd Annual Excellence in Thermoset Polymer Research Award for his paper, "Methylol-Functional Benzoxazines: Novel Precursors for Phenolic Thermoset Polymers." TRFA is also awarding second place prize to Brendan McDonald of the University of Waterloo for his paper "Biomimetic Micro-Structured Surfaces: Pattern Transfer and Fabrication of Icephobic Epoxy Surfaces.” Read More

University of Miskolc, Hungary gains accreditation.

During a press conference at the University of Miskolc, Hungary, Fieldbus Foundation announced that the university has been successful in the rigorous certification process required to become a training site that offers fieldbus training courses certified under FOUNDATION Certified Training Program (FCTP). Program establishes uniform standards for fieldbus educational curriculum around the globe, and defines acceptable levels of learning for students of the technology. Read More

NTSB Makes 2 Recommendations to Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation.

October 26, 2012

NTSB issued 2 recommendations to Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation. Recommendation A-12-62 concerns commissioning audit by qualified independent safety experts before start of next major certification flight test program to evaluate flight test safety management system. Recommendation A-12-63 is to provide information about lessons learned from implementation of flight test safety management system to interested manufacturers, flight test industry groups, and other appropriate parties. AAMA Keynote Speaker emphasizes importance of networking.

During AAMA Fall Conference (Albuquerque, NM, October 14–17), speaker Thom Singer discussed networking strategies and importance of forming long-term business relationships. His keynote presentation relayed how important it is to break away from routine of interacting with same people during conferences and to start networking with new contacts. During second day, Singer focused on importance of utilizing social media platforms to connect with individuals outside of face-to-face meetings. Read More

EPA App and Website lets users check waterway health.

Accessible from smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers, How’s My Waterway uses GPS technology or user-entered zip code or city name to retrieve information on condition of lakes, rivers, and streams across USA. Waterways within 5 miles of search location are identified as unpolluted, polluted, or unassessed. Once specific lake, river, or stream is selected, information is provided on type of pollution and what has been done by EPA/states to reduce it. Read More

Session 2 Agenda Released for cleaning/coating conference.

Session 2 of High-Reliability Cleaning and Coating Conference will focus on electronics assembly reliability as well as influence of cleaning and coating on production of reliable hardware. Chaired by Jeff Kennedy of Celestica, this event will address conformal coating high-temperature reliability limits, adhesion strength, and standardization. NASA's John Vickers joins AeroDef Executive Committee.

John Vickers, assistant manager of Materials and Processes Laboratory at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, has joined the Executive Committee of AeroDef Manufacturing 2013 exposition and technical conference. Mr. Vickers is responsible for materials and manufacturing engineering, R/D, strategic planning, and partnerships with government, industry, and academia. He has more than 30 years of experience in materials, manufacturing, and operations of propulsion, spacecraft, and scientific systems. Read More
