BIO Responds to Study on rising drug development costs.

BIO responded to Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development's study estimating cost of developing new prescription medicine that gains marketing approval at $2.558 billion (in 2013 dollars); findings represent 145% increase (8.5% compound annual growth) since 2003 study. BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood thanked researchers for quantifying associated drug development costs and called their work authoritative and critically important to biopharmaceutical research and policy stakeholders. EPA to help water utilities bolster climate resilience.

EPA is providing up to $600,000 in training and technical assistance to help water utilities in 20+ communities bolster climate change resilience and readiness. Drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities will participate in multi-year program to prepare for potential impacts. Communities will receive assistance in using EPA's Climate Resilience Evaluation and Awareness Tool, which helps identify assets, threats, and adaptation options to help reduce risk from climate change. EPA names 2014 Green Power Leaders.

U.S. EPA announced its annual Green Power Leadership Awards, recognizing 19 Green Power Partners and 4 suppliers—including the cities of Philadelphia and Las Vegas, Apple, Kohl’s, and Trek Bicycle Corporation--for achievements in advancing nation’s renewable energy market and reducing greenhouse gas emissions fueling climate change. Equipment Leasing, Finance Industry Confidence is at 6-month high.

November 28, 2014

November 2014 Monthly Confidence Index for the Equipment Finance Industry (MCI-EFI) reports market confidence at 64.2, which is up from October's 60.4 and represents highest level since May. Survey also covered business conditions over next 4 months, demand for leases and loans to fund capital expenditures, access to capital to fund equipment acquisitions (4 months), employee hiring, U.S. economy and economic conditions, and spending on business development activities over next 6 months. Proposed standard ASTM WK46257, Guide for Management of Customer-Owned Property in the Possession of a Supplier or Subcontractor, aims to provide holistic approach to subcontractor property management. Applicable to property expected to be used by federal agencies, government contractors, and other large entities which furnish property to suppliers, standard would look at basic vital signs of good internal controls to promote improved products and services at lesser expense. NREL, SolarCity work to maximize solar power on electrical grids.

November 28, 2014

To address operational issues associated with large amounts of distributed solar energy on electrical grids, NREL and SolarCity entered into cooperative research agreement. Work includes collaboration with Hawaiian Electric Companies to analyze high-penetration solar scenarios using advanced modeling and inverter testing at Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF). In part, project funding comes from Energy Department solar cost-share program. Read More
