TIA to accept orders for 2010 TIA TPMS Relearn Chart.

TIA announced that orders for 2010 edition of the TIA TPMS Relearn Chart will be accepted for first time at TIA booth at Global Tire Expo - Powered by TIA part of SEMA Show, November 2-5. Chart includes all necessary relearn procedures, part numbers, and torque specifications for most popular domestic and import vehicles. The 2010 edition includes information for Myers Tire Supply and Orange Electronics in addition to Schrader, Dill, and NAPA. Read More

Resin coding system was introduced by SPI in 1988 to meet recyclers' needs and provide manufacturers with nationwide uniform system. Since municipal recycling programs mainly target packaging and types of recyclable plastics vary between regions/facilities, coding system offers means of identifying resin content of bottles and containers commonly found in waste stream. EU Cloning Proposal said to show disregard for science.

According to BIO director of animal biotechnology Dr. David Edwards, European Commission report proposing temporary suspension of animal cloning for food production in European Union "turns a blind eye to global scientific agreement that foods from livestock clones and their offspring are completely safe to eat." EPRI Research focuses on smart inverters for volt/var support.

EPRI has launched collaborative initiative to develop standard functions and language for grid integration of smart solar and storage inverters. To move this forward, EPRI is conducting research that analyzes effects of advanced voltage control strategies on real distribution systems. Specific focus is on use of smart inverters to provide optimized volt/var support. According to preliminary results, utility could incorporate up to twice the amount of PV power into distribution circuit. Read More

EPA Seeks Input from small businesses on formaldehyde.

U.S. EPA invites small businesses to participate in advocacy review panel that will focus on formaldehyde. Agency plans to implement regulations for new Formaldehyde Standards for Composite Wood Products Act, which was enacted in July 2010. Panel will ask selected group of small entity representatives to provide advice and recommendations on behalf of their company, community, or organization pertaining to impacts of proposed rule. EPA Proposes Addition of 9 New Sites to Superfund's NPL.

U.S. EPA is proposing addition of 9 hazardous waste sites - in GA, MD, MO, NC, NJ, OH, TX, and Puerto Rico - that pose risks to human health and environment to general Superfund section of National Priorities List (NPL). Superfund is federal program that investigates and cleans up complex, uncontrolled, or abandoned hazardous waste sites. EPA is also withdrawing its 1992 proposal to add GBF Inc., dump site in Antioch, CA. Currently, there are 1,343 final and proposed sites on NPL. Read More

Five Grants Awarded for science facility construction.

NIST has awarded total of $50 million in grants to 5 institutions to support construction of scientific research facilities that will explore topics from nanometer-scale electronics and green buildings to microbe ecosystems in oceans. Consequently, projects receiving this funding will contribute to almost $133 million in new laboratory construction projects. Data from October 2010 PMA Business Conditions Report indicates metalforming companies anticipate little change in business conditions during next 3 months. Sampling 121 U.S. and Canadian metalforming companies, report also shows participants expect incoming orders to remain unchanged throughout same time period. Average daily shipping levels in October were reported as steady, and percentage of companies with portion of their workforce on short time or layoff dipped to 17% in October. Read More
