PMI Spring Conference will offer two-track program.

ANSI Issues Reminder to ASDs for compliance form submissions.

ANSI-Accredited Standard Developers (ASDs) are reminded that 2011 ASD procedural compliance form must be completed and submitted to ANSI by March 31, 2011. After reviewing 2010 edition of ANSI Essential Requirements: Due process requirements for American National Standards, ASDs should complete ANSI Procedural Compliance Form, which was recently forwarded via email to primary contact for each ANSI ASD. Savings Figures for 2010 Energy Standard announced at conference.

Announcement made at ASHRAE's 2011 Winter Conference proclaimed that more than 30% energy savings can be achieved using ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2010, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings versus 2004 version. Published in November 2010, standard provides minimum requirements for energy-efficient design of buildings with exception of low-rise residential buildings. Read More

PCB Industry Shows Gains in December 2010 according to report.

According to IPC President and CEO Denny McGuirk, IPC's December findings from North American PCB Statistical Program show "a good month for the North American PCB industry, with sales growth rates in the double digits." He noted that while orders are slowing for rigid PCBs, flex orders and sales are "up significantly." This monthly survey of North American PCB industry tracks bookings and shipments from US and Canadian facilities in order to provide indicators of regional demand. Read More

EPA seeks public input on Superfund site criteria changes.

EPA announced it will accept public input on whether to include vapor intrusion threats as component for incorporating hazardous waste sites on National Priorities List of Superfund sites. Public feedback will be accepted on 7 topics related to potential revisions of Hazard Ranking System (HRS), which is used to evaluate sites for Superfund list, during 75-day period. Public listening sessions will also be held at Arlington, VA; San Francisco, CA; and Albuquerque, NM. Read More

NAM Official approves of OSHA withdrawal of MSD proposal.

NAM VP of Human Resources Policy Joe Trauger said manufacturers are pleased with OSHA's temporary withdrawal of its proposed additional reporting column for work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) on employer injury and illness logs. "With the unemployment rate still unacceptably high, we urge OSHA to continue to demonstrate that it is curbing the unnecessary regulations that are holding back job growth by permanently withdrawing this ill-conceived proposed rule," Trauger added. ODVA to form special interest group for rail transport.

ODVA announced that it will form special interest group (SIG) to evolve ODVA technologies for rail transport, including on-board train controls, monitoring, signaling, and demand-response. Expected to encompass EtherNet/IP compliant products, resulting standards will guide development of automated, interoperable information and communication technologies in rail transport. SIG is expected to hold its initial meeting in Q1 2011, with ODVA members attending from Europe, Asia, and Americas. Read More

Fieldbus Foundation announced it welcomes enhancements to Electronic Device Description Language (EDDL), which gives users access to diagnostic, real-time, and asset management information in industrial field instruments. Updates to EDDL include support for modular devices, offline configuration, and Unicode character sets. LIA to hold Lasers for Manufacturing event.

LIA will hold inaugural Lasers for Manufacturing Event (LME) on September 27 and 28 in Chicago. Event will provide basic training on lasers and systems, courses on laser processes, including welding and laser additive manufacturing, videos on laser processing, and examples of parts made by lasers. HVAC/R Industry Achievements recognized by ASHRAE.

At its 2011 Winter Conference held January 29 through February 2, 36 people will be recognized by ASHRAE for contributions to the Society and building industry. Specific honors include F. Paul Anderson Award, 50-Year Member Award, and ASHRAE Technology Awards. In addition to elevation of 13 members to Fellow ASHRAE membership grade, awards were offered for ASHRAE Student Design Project Competition. John F. James International Award and E.K.
