EASTEC returns to West Springfield, MA.

EPA Study reveals shift in housing developments across USA.

December 24, 2012

Released by U.S. EPA, 2012 Residential Construction Trends in America's Metropolitan Regions report finds nearly 3 of 4 large metropolitan regions saw increased share of new housing development in previously developed areas (infill housing) during 2005–2009 compared to 2000–2004. Among all 209 metropolitan regions examined, 21% of new homes were infill; remaining share was built on undeveloped land outside existing communities. Read More

NTSB is offering a new course at its training center in Ashburn, VA for emergency response, law enforcement officials, and medicolegal communities on managing transportation-related mass fatality incidents. Dual-Core Optical Fiber enhances data routes.

Optical fibers, which carry content at speed of light, must connect to sluggish switches, routers, and buffers to transmit data. Researchers have developed dual-core optical fiber that can perform same functions by applying miniscule amount of mechanical pressure. Described in OSA's open-access journal Optics Express, these nanomechanical fibers, which have light-carrying cores suspended less than 1 µm apart from each other, could enhance data processing and serve as sensors in electronic devices. ASTM International announces geotextiles workshop in Mumbai.

On Jan 22, 2013, ASTM and Bombay Textile Research Association will conduct workshop on geotextiles. Sam Allen, VP of TRI/Environmental Inc. and member of ASTM Committee D35 on Geosynthetics, will present session on GRI GM13 and GM17 specifications and another session on geosynthetic reinforcement and test procedures that result in measured design reduction factors. BIO Applauds path cleared for military biofuel producers.

BIO thanked members of House and Senate Armed Services Committees for finalizing National Defense Authorization Act of 2013 and clearing path for Department of Defense (DoD) to participate in public-private partnerships to produce advanced biofuels.
