Webinar Series focuses on variable speed drives.

Hydraulic Institute and Pump Systems Matter have announced the kick-off of Variable Speed Drives 4-part webinar series beginning on February 14, 2013. Sessions will include: Intro 101; Application and Installation Considerations; Protection for VFD and Proper Output; and Troubleshooting Problems with VFDs. IEEE Standards Association is collaborating with DIN – the German Institute for Standardization, and SAE International in organizing new event to explore how standards are driving innovation in electric vehicles and charging infrastructure globally, lessons learned from field of electromobility standards implementation, and gaps where standards are needed to propel EV market to next stage of growth. NREL teams up on three ARPA-E projects.

NREL has joined DOE and research partners in launching Advanced Management and Protection of Energy Storage Devices program. Over next 3 years, NREL engineers will work with Utah State University, Washington University, and Eaton Corporation to optimize utilization, life, and cost of Li-ion batteries for electric-drive vehicles through improved battery management and controls. Projects are funded under AMPED program with more than $7.4 million from DOE's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy. Read More

Offered by LIA, CO2 Medical Laser Safety Training course helps make CO2 lasers easier to use. Internet-based course allows learning anytime and anywhere while also allowing registered nurses to earn 2 contact hours upon completion. Geared towards medical personnel, online course covers biophysics for CO2 laser, applicable standards, and requisite operational skills for different delivery systems. IREC supports FERC's proposed modifications.

Proposed modifications announced by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to agency's Small Generator Interconnection Procedures lay the groundwork for facilitating a more efficient interconnection process for small renewable generators, while maintaining safety and reliability. If finalized, changes would reflect all modifications recommended by IREC in response to a petition from the Solar Energy Industries Association to initiate a rulemaking. Read More

ASTM F2982, Specification for Polyester Composition Floor Tile, covers a new type of resilient flooring tile product that is based on a polyester binder. Among requirements detailed in ASTM F2982 are materials and manufacture information, mechanical properties, and dimensions/permissible variations. Performance Requirements section covers deflection; dimensional stability; resistance to chemicals, heat, and light stability; and static load limit. Read More
