Speakers cover variety of topics at Annual Conference.

During AAMA's 78th Annual Conference,speakers addressed range of topics. Jim Snyder, owner of WindowJim, spoke to attendees about the paradox of next-generation window replacement. Frank Koos, general secretary of EuroWindoor, discussed the construction sector in Europe, the legislation that governs it, and the European window markets. NREL Science is crucial to success of new biofuels plants.

NREL played crucial role in technology that led DuPont, POET, and Abengoa to open commercial-scale facilities to turn biomass into clean transportation fuels. Companies turned to NREL for biofuels expertise—POET for pretreatment, Abengoa for compositional analysis, and DuPont for crucial steps in process. NEMA publishes standard for Watthour Meter Sockets.

Useful to electric utilities as well as electricity meter and meter socket industries, ANSI C12.7-2014 American National Standard for Requirements for Watthour Meter Sockets covers dimensions and functions of meter test switches for transformer-rated watthour meters when used in conjunction with instrument transformers. Specifically, standard covers sockets rated up to and including 600 V, and up to and including 320 A continuous duty per socket opening. Read More

AIA Announces Departure of President and CEO Marion Blakey.

February 26, 2015

AIA announced Marion C. Blakey's departure. After her 7-year tenure as AIA President and CEO, Blakey will be taking position of President and CEO of Rolls Royce North America. AIA Chairman and President and CEO of GE Aviation David L. Joyce noted how "AIA has elevated its role advocating in the best interests of the nation and the aerospace and defense industry" while under Blakey's guidance. ELFA 2015 MCI-EFI shows confidence remaining at 3-year high.

February 2015 MCI-EFI shows confidence in equipment finance market at 66.3, which is up from 3-year high of January's index of 66.1. Other fields of expected expansion/growth over next 4 months include demand for leases and loans to fund capital expenditures, "excellent" U.S. economic staus, and improving economic conditions. BIO urges readoption of Low Carbon Fuel Standard with changes.

BIO is generally supportive of California's plan to readopt state Low Carbon Fuel Standard, but expressed concerns about certain aspects of law and their potential impact on production of low carbon biofuels. BIO is concerned that intensified reporting requirements could be particularly burdensome in time and cost to small and new low-carbon fuel producers. California Air Resources Board should ensure that new requirements do not inadvertently discourage small producers or innovation. Read More

NEMA published ANSI C78.375A-2014 American National Standard for Electric Lamps—Fluorescent Lamps—Guide for Electrical Measures. Developed by ANSI Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) C78, said standard describes procedures to be followed as well as precautions to be observed in obtaining uniform and reproducible measurements of electrical characteristics of fluorescent lamps under standard conditions when operated on alternating current circuits. U.S. Department of State and EPA launch partnership.

U.S. Department of State and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency signed statement of intent to launch partnership between agencies and U.S. diplomatic missions overseas to enhance availability of outdoor air quality data and expertise at a number of U.S. diplomatic missions. One key feature of partnership is expanding EPA’s existing AirNow system to include data from participating U.S. embassies. AirNow publicly shares air quality data, enabling viewers to reduce exposure to poor quality air. Read More
