Student Rocket Contest achieves record turnout.

April 3, 2013

On May 11, students from across the country will meet to decide winner of world's largest student rocket contest. Team America Rocketry Challenge encourages students to advance their education and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. In year of record turnout, attracting 725 teams, only top 100 will proceed to compete in final fly-off. Students will compete for national title, more than $60,000 in scholarships, and chance to participate in NASA’s Student Launch Initiative. Read More

EPA SAB Announces Panel to review hydraulic fracturing research.

U.S. EPA's independent Science Advisory Board (SAB) announced formation of its Hydraulic Fracturing Research Advisory panel. Comprising 31 independent experts, this panel will peer review EPA's 2014 draft report of results for its national study on potential health and environmental impacts of hydraulic fracturing on drinking water resources. Leading up to peer review, SAB panel will provide scientific feedback on EPA research in open and transparent manner. Read More

Registration Opens for 2013 Hydraulic Institute Technical meeting.

Registration is open for 2013 Hydraulic Institute (HI) Technical meeting (June 26–28 in Lincolnshire, IL). Event provides venue for interested members to volunteer their expertise and join technical committees that create ANSI/HI Standards, technical guidelines, and reports for pumps and pumping systems.  Nearly 30 committees will meet, and other highlights will include pump knowledge workshops, Department of Energy and technical affairs updates, and structured authoring training session. EPA and DOE are recognizing 118 awardees for their commitment to saving energy and protecting the environment. Recipients of the 2013 Energy Star Partner of the Year Award include Sears Holdings Corporation, PepsiCo, JC Penney, Food Lion, USAA Real Estate, Loudoun County Public Schools in Virginia, and Toyota. CDA provides motor management best practices.

By upgrading to more energy-efficient motors, facility managers can improve equipment reliability, increase productivity, and reduce downtime. Working with government and industry-based motor experts, CDA has created comprehensive 3-part Motor Management Program. Part 1 involves creating a motor inventory and developing repair and replacement guidelines. CDA, in conjunction with WSU Energy Extension Office, also offers hands-on training and assistance to develop motor management plans. Read More
