Originally covering only ferrous PM industry, website has since been refined and extended to include nonferrous PM and MIM sectors and contains nearly 4,000 lines of high-quality data. ASTM Developing Proposed Standard for concrete reinforcement bars.

ASTM WK46112, Specification for Zinc-Coated (Continuous Hot-Dip Galvanized) Steel Bars for Concrete Reinforcement, covers protection of zinc-coated steel bars used for concrete reinforcement in large infrastructure projects. In addition to describing product characteristics of steel reinforcing bars, zinc-coated (galvanized) by continuous hot-dip process in cut lengths or coils, standard features fabrication properties that minimize installation costs as well as long-term maintenance costs. ASTM Board of Directors to hold October meeting in Seoul.

South Korea will host 2014 (October 19–22) fall meeting of ASTM International board of directors. Holding ASTM board meeting in Seoul lets ASTM connect with its South Korean members and industry sector representatives using ASTM standards in South Korea. In addition to formal board sessions, events will include Standards and Medical Device Regulation Roundtable, workshop on regulations and standards regarding environment and sustainable building construction, and ASTM brand identity launch. ASTM Parasailing Standard improves safety in FL as new law.

October 20, 2014

ASTM International standard F3099, Practices for Parasailing, went into effect September 18, 2014 and has become international standard for parasailing operators. ASTM F3099 offers guidelines/procedures for operation and maintenance of parasail equipment as well as standards for crew proficiency and flying passengers aloft. Florida State Senator Maria Lorts Sachs said White-Miskell Act "would not be a reality" without help of WSIA, Coast Guard, parasail industry, and ASTM International. Read More

NEMA Publishes 2015 Edition of products and standards guide.

Contents of 2015 edition of NEMA's Electrical Standards & Products Guide (ESPG) include listing of NEMA electrical standards as well as directory of manufacturers and their products. According to NEMA Assistant Vice President Paul Molitorm "This is the one place where members' customers can directly connect standards with their products." EPA provides technical assistance to 5 communities.

October 20, 2014

EPA is providing $335,000 in technical assistance to 5 communities to help them develop components of integrated plans for wastewater and stormwater management. They include: Burlington, VT; Durham, NH; Santa Maria, CA; Springfield, MO; and Onodaga County, NY. Integrated planning lets communities sequence projects so they can start those with highest priority first. EPA's technical assistance will help recipients meet Clean Water Act requirements for water management. Read More

There are 3 proposed ASTM International standards which will emphasize importance of using sustainable materials in road and paving industry: ASTM WK46376, Specification for Blast Furnace and Steel Furnace Slag as Produced During the Manufacture of Iron and Steel; ASTM WK46377, Guide for the Use of Recycled Asphalt Shingles (RAS) in Bituminous Mixtures; and ASTM WK46379, Guide for the Use of Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in Bituminous Mixtures.
