Office of U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has issued Request for Information (RFI), Request for Comments Concerning Proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Agreement, soliciting public comments regarding planned negotiations connected with creation of Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement with European Union. All persons with input regarding agreement, including how it relates to U.S. interests and priorities, are encouraged to voice their views. Read More

Participants Sought for pumping machinery dynamics review.

Under ANSI approval, Hydraulic Institute seeks qualified individuals to review Dynamics of Pumping Machinery. This new guideline describes and recommends means to appropriately evaluate pumping machinery construction attributes and relevant site characteristics to determine effects of dynamic performance on equipment life and reliability. Also, guideline describes and recommends levels of evaluation and validation commensurate with degree of equipment uncertainty and application risk. Read More

FAA extends tower closure date.

April 9, 2013

Last month, FAA announced it would eliminate funding for 149 federal contract air traffic control towers as part of agency’s required $637 million budget cuts under sequestration. FAA said today that it will delay tower closures until June 15, allowing agency to attempt to resolve multiple legal challenges to closure decisions. As part of tower closure implementation process, agency continues to consult with airports and operators and review appropriate risk mitigations. Read More

Settlement with Dominion Energy reduces harmful pollution.

April 9, 2013

Department of Justice and U.S. EPA announced that Dominion Energy has agreed to pay $3.4 million civil penalty and spend approximately $9.8 million on environmental mitigation projects to resolve Clean Air Act violations. Settlement will result in reductions of nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and particulate matter by more than 70,000 tons per year, across 3 of utility’s coal-fired power plants, located in Kincaid, IL, State Line, IN, and Somerset, MA. Ozden Ochoa, Ph.D., received Wayne W. Stinchcomb Memorial Award from ASTM International Committee D30 on Composite Materials for her technical and humanitarian leadership. Presented every 2 years at Committee D30 spring symposium, award honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions in research, engineering, or teaching technology of composite materials. Ochoa's research contributions have resulted in 200+ journal and proceeding publications, technical reports, and one book. Hydraulic Institute seeks reviewers for updated standard.

Hydraulic Institute, under approval of ANSI, is seeking qualified individuals in North America to participate in review process for draft of updated standard, American National Standard for Pumps – Controlled-Volume Metering Pumps for Nomenclature, Definitions, Application, and Operation. ANSI/HI 7.1-7.5 applies to reciprocating positive displacement pumps typically used for injection of chemical additives, proportional blending of multiple components, or metered transfer of single liquid.
