April 2013 Business Conditions Report shows dip in manufacturing.

PMA's April 2013 Business Conditions Report shows 16% of 136 participating metalforming companies expect decline in economic activity over next 3 months. Also, 21% of participants predict decrease in orders, while 22% reported decreased average daily shipping levels in April; 44% said shipping was same as 3 months ago. Up from March 2013 and April 2012, 14% of companies reported employees on short time or layoff. Read More

EPA updates list of organizations using renewable energy.

U.S. EPA's Green Power Partnership released updated list of Top 50 organizations using electricity from clean, renewable sources. Intel Corporation, Microsoft, and Apple, Inc. rank in top 10. Agency also released list of 47 partners committed to purchasing green power for 5 yr or more, including 15 higher education institutions. Also, EPA held College and University Green Power Challenge for 7th year, with University of Pennsylvania in lead. Read More

Nominations are Being Taken for AEM Hall of Fame.

Accepting nominations through June 17, 2013, AEM Hall of Fame honors those who have made difference in quality of life and whose innovations, ideas, and leadership have contributed significantly to growth and strength of off-road equipment industry. Eligibility covers anyone, living or deceased, who has contributed significantly to manufacturing, distribution, rental, or end-user sectors. AAMA's Western Region to host Spring Summit.

Western Region of American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) will host its Spring Summit, from April 30 to May 1, in Tempe, AZ. Features will include panel discussion focused on energy-efficient fenestration, economic update from Dr. Esmael Adibi, as well as tour of Palo Verde Energy Education Center. Additionally, updates will be given on Department of Energy, Title 24 building efficiency standards, as well as recent code changes pertinent to Western Region. Read More

NREL ranks as top work place in Denver Post survey.

U.S. DOE National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has been recognized by Denver Post as "2013 Top Work Place." Survey was taken voluntarily by 75% of laboratory's staff, according to NREL Director Dan Arvizu. It covered organizational health, job satisfaction, and engagement with questions on NREL's strategic direction, leadership, values, execution, and individual job satisfaction. Laboratory was also ranked on how meaningful it is to work there and how engaged it is in its mission. Read More

CONEXPO Latin America is set for 2015 in Chile.

Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), owner of CONEXPO, signed letter of intent with Chilean Chamber of Construction to co-locate CONEXPO Latin America with Chamber's Edifica exposition, which will be held October 2015 in Santiago, Chile. Directed "by the industry and for the good of the industry," CONEXPO Latin America will feature latest construction and construction materials equipment, technologies, and services for Latin America marketplace. Seattle and King County, WA will upgrade stormwater systems.

Under settlements with Department of Justice and U.S EPA, King County and city of Seattle agreed to invest in upgrades to local sewage and combined stormwater collection, piping, and treatment. Both agreements allow integrated planning approach, encouraging communities to set their own clean water project priorities and invest in fixing most pressing problems first. Also, settlements require development and implementation of joint plan to improve system-wide operations and maintenance. Read More
