Exhibitor Registration open for bC India.

Applications for exhibit space are being accepted for companies and other participants wishing to exhibit at second edition of bC India, a BAUMA CONEXPO SHOW, which takes place Feb 5-8, 2013 at the MMRDA grounds in the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. Scheduled to cover 13,000 square meters of exhibition space, second bC India is taking up almost 50% more space than at the premier in 2011. Closing date for priority applications is March 15, 2012. PTDA offers overview of PTDA 2011 Industry Summit.

Held Oct 13-15 in Washington, D.C., PTDA 2011 Industry Summit provided unique mix of educational sessions on industry trends, distributor-manufacturer meetings, and peer networking forums. Final registration numbers indicate more than 530 industry professionals registered for and attended the conference. PTDA presents Warren Pike Award to Carlos Ingram.

PTDA named Carlos Ingram, former VP business systems, Kaman Industrial Technologies Corporation, the 22nd recipient of its Warren Pike Award for lifetime achievement in power transmission/motion control industry. Beginning as a member of Business Information Systems Committee in 1991, Carlos has served on committees ranging from Marketing to Industry Relations. He joined PTDA board in 1998 and served as president in 2003. He continued to serve association up until his retirement in May 2011. Read More

ASTM Issues New Standard for children's jewelry.

ASTM F2923, Specification for Consumer Product Safety for Children's Jewelry, will be used by jewelry industry to establish harmonized guideline for manufacturing children's jewelry products. In addition to establishing requirements and test methods for specified elements and certain mechanical hazards in children's jewelry, standard includes recommendations for age labeling and warnings as well as guidelines for identifying primary intended users of jewelry: children or adults. Wheeling High School of Wheeling, Ill. is 1 of 6 exemplary schools selected for first phase of new Partnership Response in Manufacturing Education program launched in fall 2011. SAE and World Scientific Publishing agree to book partnership.

Through strategic partnership, SAE International will be able to sell electronic versions of selected WSP books via its own e-bookstore. Agreement is part of SAE's Content Partnership Program, which seeks to increase SAE's publishing program by partnering with commercial and non-commercial publishers, industry experts, multimedia producers, and variety of other technical knowledge providers. Bill Gorman Named AAMA Honorary Member after 26 years of service.

American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) Board of Directors unanimously approved motion to award Bill Gorman with Honorary Membership status. Nominated by Ray Garries of JELD-WEN, Inc., Milgard engineer Bill Gorman continued to represent Milgard with his active participation in AAMA and National Fenestration Rating Council following his retirement in 2001. Greg Wilson to be Director of National Center for Photovoltaics.

Effective November 28, Dr. Gregory M. Wilson will become director of National Center for Photovoltaics (NCPV) at U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) NREL. Wilson brings 17 years of experience in silicon research and in photovoltaic leadership to NCPV from his work at MEMC. Wilson stated, "I am convinced that photovoltaic research and technology development within the NCPV can lead the way in achieving widespread grid parity for multiple photovoltaic technologies." It defines high-priority requirements for standards, official guidance, and technology developments that need to be met in order for agencies to accelerate their migration of existing IT systems to the cloud computing model. Nokia Siemens Networks joins EEMBC Networking Subcommittee.

As a member of EEMBC's Networking Subcommittee, Nokia Siemens Networks will have full access to all benchmark tools provided within that subcommittee, and will help drive consortium's future direction in area of radio/networking equipment and appliances. Consortium is working on new benchmark suite, named DPIBench, which will provide standardized method of evaluating UTM appliance performance. AMCA International forms Asia-AMCA joint venture.

At its annual meeting in Poipu, Hawaii, AMCA International announced formation of a new Asian joint venture. Partnership will be majority owned by AMCA International with minority interest held by AFMA, which previously operated licensed AMCA independent laboratory in Singapore and acted as AMCA's agent serving Southeast Asia. Asia AMCA will expand its staff to better serve the region and will provide all AMCA headquarters functions and certification services from Singapore. Read More

ASABE announces project to revise microirrigation standard.

ASAE EP405.1, Design and Installation of Microirrigation Systems, was approved by ASABE in April 1988 and has been systematically reviewed every 5 years per ASABE Standardization Procedures. Latest periodic review elicited suggestions to update standard to reflect changes in terminology and compliance with current practices. Also, improvements in industry products have brought into question some performance values provided within EP405.1. Read More

ASABE to revise animal-drawn equipment standard.

ASABE has initiated project to revise ANSI/ASAE EP576.1, Lighting and Marking of Animal-Drawn Equipment. Currently published standard has effective recommendations for animal-drawn wagons and buggies. However, safety professionals working with Anabaptist communities have identified additional recommendations that are needed for various low-profile wagons operating on public roads, including pony carts, which are commonly operated by children. Highlighting clean energy industry technology and business developments, U.S. Department of Energy's NREL 24th Industry Growth Forum attracted 500+ investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, and policymakers. NREL also hosted Partnership Accelerator program, which aims to cultivate collaborative opportunities within research and industry communities working on energy issues in commercial and residential buildings. Process Expo 2011 sees record-breaking attendance.

FPSA announced 12,732 registered attendees for PROCESS EXPO 2011, which took place Nov 1-4, 2011. International attendees totaled just over 14% of visitors with largest delegations coming from Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, and Germany. This year's show featured expanded educational program built with input from food processor community. Culinary and industry council pavilions highlighted finished products for consumers, while mobile resources delivered information to attendees' fingertips. Read More

Geosynthetic Practice standardizes leak detection method.

ASTM D7703, Practice for Electrical Leak Location on Exposed Geomembranes Using the Water Lance System, standardizes geoelectric method used to detect potential leaks in exposed electrically isolating membranes in field in containment applications. Using this practice to geoelectrically test geomembranes prior to placing containment system in operation will minimize leakage. Apps for the Environment Challenge Winners announced by EPA.

U.S. EPA announced winners of Apps for the Environment challenge, which encouraged new and innovative uses of EPA data to create apps that address environmental and public health issues. According to Malcolm Jackson, EPA Chief Information Officer, the winners "demonstrate that it's possible to transform data from EPA and elsewhere into applications that people can use." Winning apps were Light Bulb Finder, Hootroot, EarthFriend, Environmental Justice Participatory Mapping, and CG Search. Read More
