ANSI-hosted Meeting to discuss Energy Efficiency Standards Panel.

On April 25, ANSI exploratory meeting will examine need for Energy Efficiency Standards Panel (EESP) to develop standardization roadmap for energy efficiency initiatives in U.S. Meeting will help define scope and areas of focus for potential standards panel concerning standards, codes, and conformance programs needed to advance nation's energy efficiency agenda. ANSI Joint Member Forum focuses on quality workforce.

Held on March 20, ANSI's Joint Member Forum focused on range of activities underway aimed at helping nation meet President Obama's goal of doubling credentials of American workforce by 2020, enhancing credentialing of personnel, and supporting secondary and postsecondary career pathways. According to Roy Swift, Ph.D., ANSI's senior director of personnel credentialing accreditation programs and event moderator, the skills gap has left 3 million jobs vacant in the U.S. today. Blake Moret, Senior VP, Control Products and Solutions, Rockwell Automation, was elected vice chair of The Manufacturing Institute Board of Trustees. Moret will help marshal research, innovation, and education efforts to produce high-quality manufacturing workforce and support U.S. competitiveness. Moret also serves on advisory board of the school of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he received a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Read More

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) started celebration of Energy Star's 20th anniversary by recognizing 2012 Energy Star award winners for their leadership and commitment to protecting America's environment through superior energy efficiency. From nearly 20,000 partners across USA, 109 winners were chosen. EPA Helps Raise Awareness for National Poison Prevention Week.

EPA and federal partners are raising awareness concerning specific dangers of poisoning, especially to children, from March 18-24, 2012. In recognition of National Poison Prevention Week, EPA urges parents and caregivers to secure chemicals and pesticides in locked cabinets out of children's reach. PMA Business Conditions Report anticipates steady business.

Specific percentages of participants from sampling of 134 metalforming companies from USA and Canada who expect economic activity to improve, remain unchanged, and decline during next 3 months are 46%, 49%, and 5%, respectively. Nearly one-half of participants anticipate continued growth in incoming orders during same time period, and companies with portion of workforce on short time or layoff remained steady at 7%. With 53% as majority, average daily shipping levels also rose in March. Read More

Held March 13-15, co-located World of Asphalt Show and Conference and AGG1 Aggregates Forum and Expo posted record numbers for attendee registrants as well as amount of exhibit space, number of exhibitors, and number of education session tickets sold. Attendee registration numbers totaled more than 6,500 at show close, and show floor covered 115,000+ net ft² of exhibit space, taken by 408 exhibitors. William G. Franklin Jr., asset management lead at Noblis Inc., has been named chairman of ASTM International Committee E53 on Property Management Systems. Member of ASTM International and Committee E53 since 2007, Franklin was presented with its Certificate of Appreciation in 2009.
