Jet Tunnel Fan Testing Standard approved by ANSI.

ANSI's Board of Standards Review has approved revision ANSI/AMCA 250-2012, Laboratory Methods of Testing Jet Tunnel Fans for Performance. Standard deals with determination of those technical characteristics needed to describe all aspects of performance of jet tunnel fans. It does not cover fans designed for ducted applications nor those designed solely for air circulation. Procedures relate to laboratory conditions; measurement of performance under in-situ conditions is not included. Read More

Leasing of Solar Equipment opens technology to new markets.

Analysts with U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) found solar lease business is surging in southern California, with homeowners in less affluent neighborhoods discovering they can afford solar energy by leasing rather than buying panels for their roofs. If what's true in southern CA proves true for USA, it means rooftop solar power could attract additional 13 million Americans and help push solar energy into mainstream. Read More

Budapest IPC Conference sees double-digit growth.

IPC's second annual Conference on Electronics Assembly: Soldering, Assembly and Inspection, held in Budapest, Hungary saw an increase of 21% in attendees and 44% increase in exhibitors over its inaugural event last year. Event included half-day workshops conducted by EMS experts Bob Willis, and Lars Wallin, IPC's European representative. Dell Inc. has joined Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium's (EEMBC) Consumer Subcommittee, which includes working groups focusing on developing mobile device benchmarks. According to Brian Zucker, Dell's Director of Performance Engineering, Dell will utilize EEMBC benchmark standards to help select most effective processing solutions for next generation of tablets and mobile devices as well as contribute to EEMBC BrowsingBench, AndEBench, and other relevant benchmark suites. NIST's Manufacturing Extension Partnership and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office teamed up to create IP Awareness Assessment tool to help small companies and entrepreneurs evaluate their awareness of IP and learn how to protect it. Full assessment comprises questions on 5 IP protection categories: utility patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and design patents. Transportation Dept and FAA launch NextGen initiative in Houston.

Top U.S. Transportation Department and FAA officials met with aviation partners in Houston as part of collaborative effort to make air traffic control more efficient, help airlines improve on-time performance, and reduce emissions generated by aircraft flying into and out of Houston's airports. FAA estimates that as a result of the Houston Metroplex airspace initiative, airplanes will fly 648,000 fewer nautical miles annually, and up to 3 million gallons of fuel will be saved each year.
