ASC names Connie Howe to Technical Services position.

ASC has named Connie Howe as Senior Manager, Technical Services to oversee its technically oriented programming including short courses, Training Academy, and Advanced Technology Link. Howe will also serve as staff liaison to Technical Committee. Having held several technical corporate positions and experience with various adhesive technologies, she will play leading role in developing ASC's focus on sustainability and environmental product declarations. Cavanaugh Memorial Award honors work of Disney's Greg B. Hale.

ASTM International has honored Greg B. Hale, P.E., chief safety officer and vice president of worldwide standards and auditing for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Orlando, FL, with the 2013 William T. Cavanaugh Memorial Award. Hale received award for his contributions to amusement park safety through the development, promotion, implementation, harmonization, and adoption of standards worldwide from ASTM International Committee F24 on Amusement Rides and Devices. Housing Design Contest aims to aid natural disaster survivors.

American Institute of Architects (AIA) is partnering with Make It Right, St. Bernard Project, and Architecture for Humanity to launch Designing Recovery competition. Designed to help survivors of 3 recent natural disasters, competition will take place in 3 settings – New Orleans, LA; Joplin, MO; and New York, NY – where non-profit partner organizations are working to recover from previous disasters. Organizers hope designs will also aid other communities recovering from recent disasters. Read More

AIA Extends Council Meeting Attendance to non-members.

AIA is offering opportunity for non-members to attend Summer Supplier Management Council Meeting, which will be hosted by Alcoa Defense on July 16–18, 2013 in Cleveland, OH. Attendees will be able to meet with Alcoa Defense buyers and senior aerospace and defense leaders and decision makers. Business-to-business meeting with Alcoa Defense is guaranteed but only for limited number of non-members.  For those attending as non-member, AIA will credit registration fee towards AIA membership. AIA, Mary Fallin tout value of government-industry partnership.

June 19, 2013

Leadership of AIA joined with Governor Mary Fallin of Oklahoma and representatives from U.S. government and state delegations at Paris Air Show. They discussed issues which ranged from impacts of sequestration budget cuts to potential societal and economic benefits of unmanned aircraft systems as well as value of trade to aerospace and defense industry. AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey called partnership between government and industry "an invaluable resource." Read More

NESCC Announces Call for new private-sector co-chair.

Nuclear Energy Standards Coordination Collaborative (NESCC), joint initiative of ANSI and U.S. Department of Commerce's NIST, announced that its Steering Committee is seeking one qualified individual to serve as private-sector co-chair. For this position, applicants are sought who hold senior leadership positions in U.S. commercial nuclear industry. Applicants are expected to have participated in major industry bodies and have had previous experience with standards. Read More

Webinar Series addresses export control reform.

Recent and additional expected changes to International Traffic in Arms Regulations and Export Administration Regulations will impact electronics companies that manufacture for the aerospace and defense markets. These regulations specifically address printed boards and printed board designs.
