RIA and The Clean Trust sign memorandum of understanding.

Aimed at establishing working relationship, board of directors of Restoration Industry Association (RIA) and The Clean Trust have approved memorandum of understanding (MOU). Senior executive leadership of each organization, under the MOU, will keep the other aware of applicable functions and activities related to natural disaster mitigation measures, indoor environmental issues, and other issues of shared interest in order to increase inter-organization cooperation and coordination. ANSI approves IESO/RIA 6001-2011 standard.

ANSI has approved IESO/RIA 6001-2011 Evaluation of HVAC Interior Surfaces to Determine the Presence of Fire-Related Particulate as a Result of a Fire in a Structure. Standard uses char as primary indicator and soot as secondary indicator of fire-related particulate, and also requires quantification of char/soot concentrations to allow comparisons with control sample. It does not determine what materials have been burned or what materials have been deposited on surface. Read More

EPA FY 2013 Budget Proposal focuses on core protections.

Obama Administration proposed FY 2013 budget of $8.344 billion - $105 million below EPA's enacted level for FY 2012 - for U.S. EPA, reflecting government-wide effort to reduce spending and find cost-savings. According to EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson, balanced approach to this budget "demonstrates fiscal responsibility, while still supporting clean air, healthy waters, and innovative safeguards that are essential to an America built to last." EPRI to demonstrate Utility Direct Fast Charger technology.

February 21, 2012

On Feb 23, 2012, EPRI will demonstrate first prototype 2.4 kV 45 kVA-based, solid-state, DC fast charging technology for electric vehicles, which is expected to achieve overall efficiency of 96-97%. Utility Direct Fast Charger technology will enable rapid charging of plug-in electric vehicles and can also serve as utility-owned distribution asset that can be used for other electricity delivery purposes. New Cingular Wireless Settlement resolves violations of EPCRA.

February 21, 2012

U.S. EPA announced an agreement with New Cingular Wireless to resolve violations of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act. New Cingular Wireless voluntarily disclosed reporting violations to EPA, which related to presence of sulfuric acid, diesel, and lead at 642 cellular facilities in 35 states and Puerto Rico, after performing comprehensive audit of their operations. Under settlement, New Cingular Wireless will pay civil penalty of $125,728. Read More

NAM President comments on transportation and energy legislation.

February 20, 2012

NAM's Jay Timmons urged House of Representatives members to support H.R. 7, the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act of 2012, noting provisions that expand domestic energy production. Citing job creation and access to affordable energy sources, Timmons told House members to "take a stand" for energy security and manufacturing workers. He said energy production should include onshore and offshore production of oil and natural gas and urged approval of Keystone XL pipeline. Read More

NEMA Economic Forecasters take top Wall Street Journal honors.

NEMA's economic forecasting team of Don Leavens, Vice President and Chief Economist, and Tim Gill, Director, Economics, topped The Wall Street Journal's economic forecasting survey for 2011. Each year WSJ compiles forecasts of real GDP, inflation, interest rates, employment, and other indicators from economists representing trade associations, financial and consulting firms, and academia. Concentrating Solar Power technology that uses stationary receiver tube and array of mirrors mounted near ground can now be accessed within System Advisor Model, which predicts annual energy production, hourly performance, and return on investment. Teaming with Electric Power Research Institute, NREL developed direct-steam-generation linear Fresnel model in SAM.
