MESA announces first date of B2MML program.

On September 9, MESA International is offering its first ever B2MML & Integration Fundamentals program. One-day course will cover fundamentals in plant-to-enterprise integration using B2MML and ISA-95 standards, and offer participants a MESA Certificate of Competency for successful completion. Class will help companies that are thinking about plant-to-enterprise integration projects identify the best path forward—showing them potential pitfalls in integration process and how to avoid them. MTConnect Challenge 2 seeks development of software apps.

NCDMM and AMT announce the start of the second part of the MTConnect Challenge: Creating Manufacturing Intelligence, a U.S. Department of Defense – Defense-Wide Manufacturing Science and Technology ManTech-sponsored 2-part competition. Starting on July 1 and closing Jan. 31, 2014, MTConnect Challenge 2 is seeking development of software applications that harness innovation and manufacturing intelligence breakthroughs utilizing data acquired via MTConnect standard. ANSI to hold product certification training workshop.

On August 15–16, 2013, ANSI will hold course titled Product Certification - ISO/IEC 17065 Training Workshop, designed to introduce interested stakeholders to the international standard ISO/IEC 17065, Conformity assessment — Requirements for bodies certifying products, processes, and services. Through the use of class exercises and practical examples, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the accreditation requirements contained in ISO/IEC 17065. Read More

July Meeting Agenda has been released by NESCC.

Nuclear Energy Standards Coordination Collaborative (NESCC), joint initiative of ANSI and NIST, released agenda for spring meeting (July 23, 2013 in Washington, DC). Meeting will include presentations on nuclear energy standards from ISO Technical Committee (TC) 85 on nuclear energy and the lessons learned during construction of Vogtle Electric Generation plant near Waynesboro, GA as well as discussion of NESCC framework document and results of survey of NESCC members. EPA's Tier III Rule can encourage adoption of biofuels.

July 3, 2013

BIO urged EPA to issue final Tier 3 Motor Vehicle Emission and Fuel Standards rule that maximizes investment in and adoption of advanced biofuels. According to Brent Erickson, executive VP of BIO's Industrial and Environmental Section, encouraging biofuels, including higher blends of ethanol and drop-in biofuels, would help meet EPA’s overall goal in this rulemaking to address the impacts of motor vehicles and fuels on air quality and public health. IPC Report shows PCB book-to-bill ratio remains strong.

July 2, 2013

Findings from IPC's monthly North American Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Statistical Program for May 2013 show PCB book-to-bill ratio stayed strong for sixth consecutive month, remaining at 1.10. Total North American PCB shipments were down 4.4% from May 2012, but bookings increased 8.3% year over year (Y/Y). Year to date (YTD), PCB industry shipments were down 4.9% and bookings were down 0.3%. Compared to previous month, PCB shipments increased 0.9% and bookings grew 6.5%. Read More

SciFinder® offers API capabilities.

Chemical Abstracts Service announced that the SciFinder® interface now enables range of APIs designed to streamline researchers' workflows. CAS has collaborated with several customers to develop API support for reaction, substance, and reference searching. Available web services will access SciFinder to search CAS databases for chemical information, providing means to seamlessly integrate customer's internal tools and systems with SciFinder. Read More
