TRFA announces winner of research award.

September 13, 2013

TRFA has announced that Qi An of the University of Delaware is the winner of the 4th Annual Excellence in Thermoset Polymer Research Award for paper titled “Epoxy-Based Carbon Nanotube/Fiber Hybrid Composites: Nanoscale Hybridization via Electrophoresis.” Because competition was especially close, TRFA is awarding second place prize to Zhan H. Yang, of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, for “Enhancing Mechanical Performance by Heterogeneity-Promoting Staged Fabrications.” Read More

BIO Announces Presenting Companies BIO Investor Forum 2013.

BIO announced initial list of presenting companies for 12th Annual BIO Investor Forum, which explores investment trends and opportunities in life sciences. Focusing on early and mid-stage private as well as emerging public companies poised for growth in 2014, this event will take place October 8–9, 2013 in San Francisco, CA. Additive Manufacturing Conference focuses on powder metallurgy.

Metal Powder Industries Federation announced inaugural conference on Additive Manufacturing with Powder Metallurgy (AMPM) will take place May 18–20, 2014 in Orlando, FL. Comprising 6 technical sessions with 3 presentations in each, conference will focus on Additive Manufacturing (AM) – process of making 3D solid object by adding successive layers of material rather than removing material by such conventional methods as cutting or drilling – with powder metallurgy.

AASHTO Asks Public to Vote for best transportation photos.

American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) has opened its ninth annual Faces of Transportation photography contest to online voting. General public is encouraged to select their favorite photograph from among 121 images being judged in 3 categories: Building the Future, Opening Communities, and Taking the Road Less Traveled. Each photograph represents positive effects of transportation on individuals/communities. Voting runs through September 20. Read More

Web Tool expands access to chemical regulatory information.

EPA has launched web-based tool, called ChemView, to significantly improve access to chemical specific regulatory information developed by EPA and data submitted under Toxic Substances Control Act. ChemView displays key health and safety data in online format that allows comparison of chemicals by use and by health or environmental effects. Search tool provides streamlined access to EPA assessments, hazard characterizations, and information on safer chemical ingredients. Read More

Architects and Building Engineers flock to NREL.

Busloads of architects and mechanical engineers toured NREL's Research Support Facility, one of world's largest net-zero-energy office buildings, and came away inspired with ideas for how to design and build eco-friendly structures on a budget. At Energy Systems Integration Facility, tour participants got to view a high performance computing data center, which will house one of world's most energy efficient super-computers, dedicated to energy efficiency and renewable energy research.
