Tiffany Sewell-Howard, CEO of Charles Machine Works in Perry, OK, has been elected as Director of the CE Sector Board of AEM. IPC releases PCB industry results for June 2013.

According to IPC's monthly North American Printed Circuit Board Statistical Program, total North American PCB shipments decreased 3.4% in June 2013 from June 2012, and bookings decreased 6.1% year over year. Year to date, PCB industry shipments were down 4.7% and bookings were down 1.3%. Compared to previous month, PCB shipments in June were up by 12.0%, but bookings were down 3.6%. Shipments outpaced bookings in June for first time in 7 months, causing PCB book-to-bill ratio to slip to 1.05. Read More

BIO applauds commercial production of cellulosic biofuel.

BIO congratulated INEOS Bio as it announced the start up of commercial production of cellulosic biofuel at the Indian River BioEnergy Center in Vero Beach, FL. According to Brent Erickson, Executive VP of BIO’s Industrial & Environmental Section, INEOS Bio’s biorefinery is the first to prove a biotech process successful at commercial scale. It has already created hundreds of jobs and brought economic growth – as well as renewable electricity – to its Florida community. Read More

PACK EXPO Las Vegas is breaking records.

To meet supplier demand, PMMI is expanding the PACK EXPO Las Vegas show floor yet again. Scheduled for Sept 23–35, event will include more than 1,600 processing and packaging solutions providers occupying over 700,000 net square feet, making 2013 edition the largest PACK EXPO Las Vegas since event first opened in 1995. Attendance is expected to well exceed 26,000 manufacturing professionals from baking and snack, beverage, confectionery, pharmaceutical, and other industries. Read More

Call for Papers Issued for 2 TOPCONs in China in 2013.

SPE has issued calls for papers for 2 one-day topical conferences (TOPCONs), which will be held in Shanghai, China. While "Shaping the Future of Injection Molding through Game-Changing Innovation" will take place on December 11, "Global Advances in Plastics for Medical Devices and Packaging" will take place on December 12. Deadlines are as follows: author name, paper title, and 250-word abstract by September 15, 2013; full paper by October 15; and PowerPoint® presentation by December 1. Read More

ASTM Steel Committee presents award to Dr. William Warke.

ASTM International Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys presented the Founding Committee Award to William Warke, Ph.D., in recognition of his high level of leadership and exemplary contributions to the development of ASTM steel standards. A member of ASTM since 1966, Warke is an ASTM fellow and Award of Merit recipient. He served as A01 secretary for 6 years, is past chairman of the A01.91 Editorial Subcommittee, and currently serves on multiple subcommittees. Read More
