Wes Bush stresses importance of technological innovation.

AIA chairman and Northrop Grumman Corporation chairman, CEO, and president Wes Bush delivered keynote address for National Aerospace Week at Air Force Association's annual conference and trade show. He stressed significance of Air Force-industry partnership, saying it has "kept our nation free, our economy vibrant and our way of life intact and validated." ASTM approves standard for lean duplex stainless steels.

ASTM A1084, Test Method for Detecting Detrimental Phases in Lean Duplex Austenitic/Ferritic Stainless Steels, provides tool to check if product made out of lean duplex alloy contains deleterious phases originating from improper heat treatment. Standard will give added information outside existing standard specifications that material is free from deleterious amounts of unwanted phases that, if present in significant amounts, may deteriorate corrosion resistance and toughness properties. NIST Co-Hosts Conference that highlights women in physics.

NIST is partnering with University of Maryland to co-host 2014 Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP), which will take place January 17–24, 2014. Event's goal is to encourage undergraduate women to continue in physics by providing them with opportunity to experience professional conference, acquire information about graduate school and professions in physics, as well as interact with other women in physics of all ages in order to share experiences, advice, and ideas. International Code Council adopts specification for sunrooms.

At its Public Comment Hearings, International Code Council voted to adopt AAMA/NPEA/NSA 2100-12, Specification for Sunrooms, into 2015 International Residential Code. Adoption of reference standard means IRC will now have 5 distinct categories of sunrooms for purpose of uniformly applying code's requirements to patio covers, sun porches, sunrooms, solariums, and conservatories that have been popular for homeowners who want to add recreational space by enclosing porch, deck, or patio area. PTDA Summit provides support net for channel partners.

Held Oct 3–5, PTDA 2013 Industry Summit was themed "Working Without a Net?" and was attended by over 5,300 power transmission and motion control industry representatives from nearly 230 PTDA member companies. Event included keynotes, workshops, and forums, as well as Motion Control Showcase featuring 15 suppliers presenting their latest hardware, and Manufacturer-Distributor Idea Exchange, which brought together existing and potential channel partners to strategically plan for upcoming year. PROFINET has Wall of Fame in North America.

PROFI Interface Center has completed a PROFINET ‘wall of fame’ in its Test Lab that features PROFINET devices they have tested and certified. Devices incorporated onto wall include remote I/O, drives, vision systems, and HMIs as well as wireless, embedded diagnostics, infrastructure, and security devices. According to Torsten Paulsen, Manager of PIC, the broad variety of device types and vendors underlines the openness and multi-vendor support of PROFINET. Read More

U.S. and Germany meet to advance transatlantic trade objectives.

With continued focus on standards-related aspects of Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, ANSI and German Institute for Standardization conducted U.S.-German Standards Panel in Washington, DC, on October 15. Workshop topics included added value of harmonized standards where possible, importance of resolving unnecessary barriers to world's largest trade relationship, industry perspectives on standards and conformance, and role of third-party conformity assessment in enabling free trade.
