PTDA Summit provides support net for channel partners.

Held Oct 3–5, PTDA 2013 Industry Summit was themed "Working Without a Net?" and was attended by over 5,300 power transmission and motion control industry representatives from nearly 230 PTDA member companies. Event included keynotes, workshops, and forums, as well as Motion Control Showcase featuring 15 suppliers presenting their latest hardware, and Manufacturer-Distributor Idea Exchange, which brought together existing and potential channel partners to strategically plan for upcoming year. NIST Co-Hosts Conference that highlights women in physics.

NIST is partnering with University of Maryland to co-host 2014 Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP), which will take place January 17–24, 2014. Event's goal is to encourage undergraduate women to continue in physics by providing them with opportunity to experience professional conference, acquire information about graduate school and professions in physics, as well as interact with other women in physics of all ages in order to share experiences, advice, and ideas. U.S. and Germany meet to advance transatlantic trade objectives.

With continued focus on standards-related aspects of Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, ANSI and German Institute for Standardization conducted U.S.-German Standards Panel in Washington, DC, on October 15. Workshop topics included added value of harmonized standards where possible, importance of resolving unnecessary barriers to world's largest trade relationship, industry perspectives on standards and conformance, and role of third-party conformity assessment in enabling free trade. House Members Commended on Congressional Algae Caucus re-launch.

ASTM approves standard for lean duplex stainless steels.

October 25, 2013

ASTM A1084, Test Method for Detecting Detrimental Phases in Lean Duplex Austenitic/Ferritic Stainless Steels, provides tool to check if product made out of lean duplex alloy contains deleterious phases originating from improper heat treatment. Standard will give added information outside existing standard specifications that material is free from deleterious amounts of unwanted phases that, if present in significant amounts, may deteriorate corrosion resistance and toughness properties. Standards Simulation Workshop to be held November 19 in NYC.

ANSI's workshop will simulate experience of taking part in process of creating voluntary consensus standards. Participants will be divided into teams and given agenda and lists of interests which will simulate perspectives of different stakeholders in standardization process for a new hypothetical technology.
