Proposed Standard offers test method to determine turbidity.

ASTM International Committee D19 on Water has developed ASTM WK4193, Test Method for Determination of Turbidity above 1 TU in the In-Situ Mode. Proposed standard will provide practical guidance into setup, calibration, and verification of a turbidity monitoring system before and after it has been placed in field. In its most basic applications, ASTM WK4193 will be used to measure clarity of streams, lakes, ponds, and other bodies of water to determine if it is safe for different uses. Read More

UAS Integration Plan is step forward for next aviation frontier.

AIA lauded FAA's announcement of its "Integration of Civil Unmanned Aircraft Systems in the National Airspace System (NAS)" roadmap. Calling it "a major step forward for realizing the full promise of aviation’s next great frontier," FAA Administrator Michael P. Huerta said "significant progress" is being made toward meeting congressional UAS domestic integration mandate by 2015. Huerta also discussed FAA actions to ensure public privacy concerns in management of 6 upcoming UAS test sites. Read More

Shipbuilding Standard offers thermocouple testing guidelines.

ASTM WK42858, Practice for Fire Testing, Placement of Thermocouples, will provide guidelines to ensure that appropriate methods of testing are employed for cable penetration configurations that are not fully addressed in the IMO FTP code. Standard will be used by manufacturers of firestop systems as well as test laboratories and regulatory bodies that grant type approvals for materials tested to IMO FTP Code as required for compliance with Safety of Life at Sea regulations. BIO Applauds Representatives for Small Cap Liquidity Reform Act.

Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) applauded Representatives Sean Duffy (R-WI) and John Carney (D-DE) for introducing Small Cap Liquidity Reform Act. Building on JOBS Act, said bill increases liquidity for emerging growth companies, including biotech innovators, that trade on public market. BIO's Jim Greenwood said this bill "will allow companies to choose the tick size that best fits their trading needs and stimulate capital formation for breakthrough research." Read More

BIO supports transparency in biologic substitutions.

BIO and Pennsylvania Bio commended Pennsylvania Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee for its approval of Senate Bill 405, which would require pharmacist to notify patient, and within 72 hours, the patient's physician of any biologic product substitution. Bill seeks to properly preserve patient access to accurate prescription information, maintains incentives for innovation, and promotes competitive market for biologic therapies.  Read More

AEM Announces Winners of Pillar of the Industry Awards.

Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) announced 2013 recipients of annual Pillar of the Industry Awards. Winners are member companies that have achieved or maintained Gold-level status in AEM's I Make America pro-manufacturing advocacy campaign. For 2013, 26 companies received Pillar of the Industry Awards: 9 achieved Gold Status this year, 14 were honored as Gold Year 2 winners, and 3 were recognized as Gold Year 3 winners. Read More

NTSB Report shows need for electronic logging devices, CSA reform.

American Trucking Associations said that safety recommendations by National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) emphasize need for accelerated efforts by Obama Administration to mandate electronic logging devices in commercial trucks and improve its Compliance, Safety, Accountability fleet safety monitoring and measurement system. Also, ATA highlighted NTSB recommendations regarding how Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration identifies and investigates potential problem carriers. Read More

Beamex will also work with ISA to co-develop custom web seminars.
