Metal Powder Group elects officers.

Richard Pfingstler, CEO of Atlas Pressed Metals in DuBois, PA, was elected president of the Metal Powder Industries Federation, succeeding Matthew Bulger of NetShape Technologies. Three of the federation’s 6 associations also installed new presidents during the annual meeting. They include John F. Sweet of Powder Metallurgy Parts Association, Patrick J. McGeehan of Metal Powder Producers Association, and David V. Bowles of Isostatic Pressing Association. Read More

NEMA publishes dimming ballast energy performance standard.

NEMA has published NEMA BL 3-2013 Dimming Ballast Energy Performance. This standard provides methodology for applying existing test methods for program start ballasts to fluorescent dimming ballasts. It also provides method to calculate ballast luminous efficiency for fluorescent dimming ballasts. In addition, BL 3 combines new 2014 DOE standard for programmed start ballasts with lamp compatibility aspects of NEMA LL 9-2011 Dimming of T8 Fluorescent Lighting Systems document. Read More

NREL Test helps improve moisture barriers.

Developed by Energy Department's National Renewable Energy Laboratory, NREL Electric Calcium Test (e-Ca) uses unique design elements to measure corrosion from water. Resulting ability to detect infinitesimally small amounts of moisture promotes assurance that barrier films will last. Optimized for sensitivity, e-Ca method specifically uses test cards with calcium metal traces for detection of down to 10-7 g of water per square meter per day. Read More

NCDMM and AMT announce that DMG MORI SEIKI USA, ITAMCO, Mazak Corporation, and Okuma America Corporation will support MTConnect Challenge 2 by providing access to data generated by their equipment for development and testing of manufacturing intelligence applications. Second MTConnect Challenge: Creating Manufacturing Intelligence is seeking development of software applications that harness innovation and manufacturing intelligence breakthroughs utilizing data acquired via MTConnect standard. ASTM Issues Papers Invite for gypsum technologies symposium.

December 6, 2013

Papers are invited for symposium on Advances in Gypsum Technologies and Building Systems, which will be held May 21, 2015 in Anaheim, CA to review innovations over past 25 years for gypsum products, systems, testing, and related building applications. Symposium will also highlight future opportunities and challenges. To participate, 250- to 300-word preliminary abstract must be submitted by March 3, 2014. Presentation and manuscript must not be of commercial nature or previously published. Read More

Cork Floor Tile Requirements Standard is available from ASTM.

December 5, 2013

ASTM F3008, Specification for Cork Floor Tile, specifies requirements for cork floor coverings that are made from agglomerated composition cork supplied in tile form and designed to for use with factory finish, in-situ finish, or both. Developed by Subcommittee F06.80 on Specifications, standard establishes minimum requirements and characteristics that said material has to meet. This new standard will be used by manufacturers as well as architects, end users, and testing laboratories. Read More

ASTM invites papers for international roofing symposium.

Papers are invited for Eighth Symposium on Research Roofing and Standards Development, which will be held Dec 6, 2015. Symposium is intended to address topics describing research and standards development for low-sloped and steep roofing systems, including polymer-modified and conventional built-up bituminous roofing; liquid-applied membrane roofing; and spray polyurethane foam roofing systems. It will also cover roof edge systems, wind/fire resistance, roof coatings, and energy-efficient roofing. Read More
