EPA Rule promotes responsible hazardous materials recycling.

FAA grants commercial UAS exemptions.

December 17, 2014

FAA granted regulatory exemptions to 4 companies that want to fly unmanned aircraft systems to perform aerial surveying, construction site monitoring, and oil rig flare stack inspections. Commercial entities that received exemptions are Trimble Navigation Limited; VDOS Global, LLC; Clayco, Inc.; and Woolpert, Inc. Secretary Foxx found that UAS in proposed operations do not need FAA-issued certificate of airworthiness because they do not pose threat to national airspace users or national security. Read More

PREP Act Declaration will advance Ebola vaccine development.

In this role, O'Neil will be responsible for driving performance and development of SME's print and digital media products, brands, and platforms. O’Neil most recently served as senior vice president with Insurance-Forums, where he managed content, marketing, product development, and sales for the largest online community of insurance professionals. SME Names Jeffrey Krause as executive director and CEO.

SME announced Jeffrey M. Krause as its new executive director and chief executive officer, and SME Board of Directors named Krause to said position (effective December 15). In this new role, Krause will be responsible for setting strategic direction while leading day-to-day operations and working with customers and stakeholders. ASTM Standard covers natural esters as insulating liquid.

Proposed standard ASTM WK21616, Test Method for Oxidation Induction Time of Natural Ester Insulating Fluids by Regular Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) will provide electrical power industry with straightforward test for oxidation stability of natural esters. Described DSC oxidation induction time method takes 2–3 hr, is direct oxidation measurement requiring minimal sample size, and does not use hazardous laboratory chemicals that require disposal. WK45326, Specification for Stormwater Catch Basin Filter, will aid community developments, sports facilities, fairgrounds, stadiums, and factories in complying with U.S. EPA clean water initiatives by offering means to reduce impact of contaminated stormwater entering local drains. This proposed ASTM International standard describes fully sustainable framing system for high efficiency geotextile sediment bags used as structural best management practice for stormwater inlet protection. EPA takes action to protect consumers from harmful chemicals.

December 17, 2014

EPA is taking action to protect the public from 7 ethylene glycol ethers or glymes chemicals that can cause health effects including birth defects and blood toxicity. Significant New Use Rule will allow EPA to review any proposed new uses of these chemicals to ensure that human health and the environment are protected. EPA believes that new uses of these chemicals should not be allowed without an opportunity for review and, if necessary, place restrictions on these chemicals, as warranted. Read More
