ASTM Standard addresses new concrete production materials.

Proposed standard ASTM WK40615, Practice for Mixing and Comparing Performance of Concrete Materials Using MiniMix Mortar Mixtures, can be used as ongoing QC tool, proactive performance screening tool, or performance issue troubleshooting tool for concrete technologists. This standard will be used to test potential performance of new materials in concrete production brought about by effects of increased sustainability focus, new technologies, and decreased availability of standard materials. Aluminum Sheet Shear Testing Standard has been revised by ASTM.

November 26, 2014

ASTM B831, Test Method for Shear Testing of Thin Aluminum Alloy Products, describes shear testing for aluminum sheets used in aircraft, automobile, light rail car, can, foil, and building materials applications. Revised to include testing procedures for wider range of uses, standard extends to applications where aluminum alloys are used for making structural components lighter. Appendix describes novel shear test sample geometry and incorporation of digital image correlation. Read More

ASTM Committee approves cook-and-hold oven standard.

November 25, 2014

Cook-and-hold ovens allow users to cook food at one temperature and then hold it at a preprogrammed lower temperature. ASTM F3051, Test Method for Performance of Cook-and-Hold Ovens, provides a test to gauge oven energy usage. Standard will demonstrate and list amount of energy to preheat a unit on a daily basis, what energy an oven expends in cooking and hold modes, and what type of production capacity they can get from a typical unit. ASTM Standards cover sustainable materials in road industry.

Three proposed ASTM International standards will emphasize importance of using sustainable materials in the road and paving industry. They include: ASTM WK46376, Specification for Blast Furnace and Steel Furnace Slag as Produced During the Manufacture of Iron and Steel; ASTM WK46377, Guide for the Use of Recycled Asphalt Shingles (RAS) in Bituminous Mixtures; and ASTM WK46379, Guide for the Use of Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in Bituminous Mixtures. AEM Announces Election Results for 2015 officers, directors.

AEM announced its newly elected 2015 officers as well as directors elected to AEM Board of Directors and AG and CE Sector Boards. Those elected as 2015 AEM officers are John Patterson as Chair, Göran Lindgren as Treasurer, James Walker as AG Chair, Michael Haberman as CE Chair, and Dennis Slater as Secretary. ASTM Standard aids in qualifying firestop system inspectors.

Proposed standard ASTM WK40836 will be used to assess credentials and qualifications of inspectors who routinely use ASTM firestop standards in their work, including ASTM E2174, Practice for OnSite Inspection of Installed Firestops, and ASTM E2393, Practice for OnSite Inspection of Installed Fire Resistive Joint Systems and Perimeter Fire Barriers. CEA announces availability of 4K Ultra HD logo license.

November 24, 2014

Licensing agreement for logos for use by manufacturers to designate 4K Ultra High-Definition TVs, monitors, and projectors for the home is now available. CEA also announced licensing agreements for promotional and educational use by retailers, buying groups, organizations, and companies engaged in 4K UHD ecosystem. Two logos – 4K Ultra HD and 4K Ultra HD Connected – address attributes of picture quality and help move toward interoperability, while providing clarity for consumers and retailers. Read More
