NREL co-hosts 24th Colorado Science Bowl.

March 17, 2014

During the 24th Colorado Science Bowl, 6 northern Colorado teams made it to the final 16, and in the end, students from Boulder's Fairview High School beat out 47 other teams to claim victory. Students answered rapid-fire questions covering topics ranging from physics to math to earth and space science. Second place went to Douglas County High School, and northern Colorado's Poudre High School rounded out top finishers to take home third-place trophy. Read More

On April 16, 2014, AMT will be in Chicagoland with its Smartforce Rally Fighter at BIG Kaiser Precision Tooling, Inc. to help promote careers in manufacturing with the Golden Corridor Advanced Manufacturing Partnership. NTSB to examine safe transport of oil and ethanol by train.

March 14, 2014

On April 22–23, NTSB will hold public form that will examine the safety issues associated with transportation of crude oil and ethanol by rail. Titled "Rail Safety: Transportation of Crude Oil and Ethanol," forum will explore DOT-111 tank car design, construction, and crash worthiness; rail operations and risk management strategies; emergency response challenges and best practices; and federal oversight. Coal Companies to spend $200 M to reduce water pollution.

March 14, 2014

Alpha Natural Resources, Inc. (Alpha), Alpha Appalachian Holdings, and 66 subsidiaries will spend estimated $200 million to install and operate wastewater treatment systems and implement system-wide upgrades to reduce discharges of pollution from coal mines. This settlement covers ~79 active mines and 25 processing plants in KY, PA, TN, VA, and WV. Additionally, companies will pay civil penalty of $27.5 million for thousands of permit violations under Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 402. Read More

NEMA Commends House for passing Energy Efficiency Improvement Act.

NEMA commended U.S. House of Representatives on passing HR 2126, Energy Efficiency Improvement Act, by a vote of 375-36. Noting bi-partisanship in advancing this piece of "positive legislation," NEMA President and CEO Evan R.
