Review Team finds Boeing 787 design safe.

FAA released findings of a team formed in January 2013 to review the Boeing 787's design, manufacture, and assembly processes. Joint team of FAA and Boeing technical experts found that the aircraft was soundly designed, met its intended safety level, and that the manufacturer and FAA had effective processes in place to identify and correct issues that emerged before and after certification. In addition, team made 7 recommendations for further improvements in Boeing processes and FAA oversight. Read More

BIO Announces Keynote Speakers for 2014 Livestock Biotech Summit.

Dr. Calestous Juma, Professor at Harvard Kennedy School, and Dr. Jim Murray, Professor at University of California at Davis, will deliver keynote addresses at 2014 BIO Livestock Biotech Summit (September 16–18). David Edwards, director of Animal Biotechnology at BIO, called Juma Murray "leaders in the field of using technology to feed the world" and said they will provide "first-hand look at opportunities for animal biotechnology to positively impact people’s diets and health." Food Processing Suppliers Association (FPSA) and NüernbergMesse signed agreement to co-locate PROCESS EXPO and InterBev Process in Chicago, IL beginning in 2015. These 2 shows, along with International Dairy Show, will take place September 15–18 and bring together more than 1,000 exhibiting companies and 21,000 industry professionals in North and Lakeside Halls of McCormick Place. EPA celebrates 10 years of SmartWay Partnerships.

EPA’s voluntary SmartWay Transport Partnership is celebrating 10 years as a market-driven initiative that empowers businesses to move goods in the cleanest most energy-efficient way possible, saving businesses money while protecting public health and fighting climate change. Over the last 10 years, SmartWay has eliminated 51.6 million metric tons of carbon pollution, resulting in savings of more than 120 million barrels of oil, and $16.8 billion in fuel costs. Read More

Webinar Series to address mechanical seals.

HI and Pump Systems Matter, in collaboration with Fluid Sealing Association, have announced Introduction to Mechanical Seals webinar series of 2014. Series will begin on March 27 and will continue April 1, April 3, and April 8. Opening session will cover how mechanical seals work and give overview of most common seal types. Session 2 addresses Construction and Design, while Session 3 covers Installation, Connections, and Commissioning. Session 4 focuses on Seal Environment and Failure Analysis. Read More

IEC Electronics Corp earns IPC J-STD-001/IPC-A-610 certification.

IPC's Validation Services Program awarded first IPC J-STD-001/IPC-A-610 Qualified Manufacturers Listing (QML) to IEC Electronics Corporation's Newark, NY and Albuquerque, NM facilities. Additionally, IEC Electronics' testing laboratory, Dynamic Research and Testing Laboratories (DRTL), in Albuquerque has been certified as IPC-approved Validation Services Test Laboratory. Certificates will be presented by IPC President and CEO John Mitchell during Opening Keynote Session at IPC APEX EXPO® on March 25, 2014. Read More

EPA calls for Green Chemistry Challenge Award nominations.

EPA is asking companies or institutions to nominate their innovative technologies for the 2014 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards. Agency is looking for nominations that have developed safer chemical processes and products that may reduce the generation and use of chemicals that are hazardous to people’s health and the environment. EPA anticipates recognizing 5 award winning green chemistry technologies this fall.
