ATA and HELP Inc. renew Featured Product partnership.

April 1, 2014

ATA and HELP Inc. are renewing their Featured Product partnership for 2014 with HELP's PrePass weigh station electronic screening and preclearance service. PrePass' inspection preclearance services are available at 302 operational weigh stations and ports of entry in 31 states. Under HELP's program, enrolled trucks are electronically pre-screened for federal and state safety and credentials before receiving permission to bypass inspection facilities at highway speeds. IPC honors STI Electronics, Inc. and Raytheon Company.

During IPC APEX EXPO®, STI Electronics received IPC Stan Plzak Corporate Recognition Award and Raytheon Company received IPC Peter Sarmanian Corporate Recognition Award. Nearly all of STI's staff are active on IPC, with 6 employees actively engaged in dozens of standards development committees. In addition, company has 14 certified IPC specialists and 38 certified trainers. More than eight dozen Raytheon employees provide leadership and technical expertise on 135 standards development committees. Read More

Biofuel Trade Organizations ask for tax incentives extension.

Citing energy security, job creation, global competitiveness, and forward-looking policy, letter sent by biofuel trade organizations to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Ranking Member Orrin Hatch (R-UT) encouraged extension of Second Generation Biofuel Producer Tax Credit, Special Depreciation Allowance for Second Generation Biofuel Plant Property, Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel Fuels Credit, and Alternative Fuel and Alternative Fuel Mixture Excise Tax Credit. NREL drives research on hydrogen fuel cells.

NREL researchers are working with auto manufacturers and component vendors to take a look at both the infrastructure and cost challenges related to hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles and fueling stations. NREL's new Energy Systems Integration Facility includes 7,000 sq-ft of lab space built for hydrogen and fuel cell research. Approximately 50 researchers contribute to hydrogen or fuel cell related tasks, including production, storage, codes and standards, technology validation, and analysis. Read More

A4A applauds appointment of General Counsel David Berg.

A4A applauded Department of Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker's decision to appoint David Berg to serve on the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board. Berg, A4A's Senior VP, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary, will serve 2-year term as member of the board where he will advise Secretary Pritzker on matters relating to the travel and tourism industry, and the critical role U.S. airlines play in connecting the world and contributing to global economy. Long-Time IPC Volunteer has been inducted into IPC Hall of Fame.

In recognition of his contributions to IPC and electronics industry, Michael V. Carano, director of new products and business development at OMG Electronic Chemicals, was honored with IPC Raymond E. Pritchard Hall of Fame Award. Carano has written 150+ technical articles, presented papers worldwide, and served on 16 IPC committees as well as IPC Board of Directors. Recently, he has taken on role as chairman of IPC Technology Education Outreach Initiative. Read More

SME Student Members perform manufacturing energy assessment.

As part of DOE's Industrial Assessment Center program, SME student members at North Carolina State University performed cost-saving energy assessment for hosiery plant in Burlington, NC. Wendy Johnson and Stephen Taylor, members of SME’s NCSU S317 student chapter, completed assessment for Kayser-Roth Corp. under supervision of their faculty advisor, Rohan Shirwaiker, PhD. Recommendations focused on improving process design, efficiency, and ergonomics associated with operations and workstations. Read More

IPC Ambassador's Council offers experience and expertise.

Members of IPC's Ambassador's Council are sidelining their retirement years to continue serving IPC and the electronics manufacturing industry. Comprising members of the IPC Hall of Fame, Ambassadors are using their experience and expertise to offer advice and guidance to IPC and its programs. Creation of the Ambassador’s Council gives staff a "Hall of Fame" channel to identify and develop robust ideas to increase scope of standards, membership growth, and government relations on global basis.
