A4A Urges Congress to reject air travel taxes proposal.

Airlines for America (A4A) opposes FY2015 White House budget proposal, which calls for $4.2 billion in higher and additional taxes on airlines and their customers. In addition to urging Members of Congress to say no to said proposal, A4A cited commercial aviation as key enabler of job growth and U.S. economic activity that could contribute at greater level if not impeded by excessive taxes and regulations. Tax burden on aviation and its customers has more than tripled since 1998. Read More

EPA and CEC Partners announce NAPECA grant recipients.

U.S. EPA, Environment Canada, and Mexico Ministry for Environment and Natural Resources awarded $1.2 million in grants under the Council of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) North American Partnership for Environmental Community Action (NAPECA) program to help communities address environmental challenges. Of 18 grant recipients, 6 are from USA. Grants include efforts to support wastewater treatment, improve nutrition in local communities, and protect water quality at beaches. Read More

BIO Honors Senator Stabenow as Legislator of the Year.

BIO Legislator of the Year award honored Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) for her successful championship of reauthorization of Farm Bill energy programs as well as their expansion to include renewable chemicals. Citing Stabenow's unrelenting efforts, BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood noted her "Grow It Here, Make It Here" initiative and called final Farm Bill "exactly the type of comprehensive policy making that supports long-term innovation and job creation." As announced by MTConnect® Institute, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) will establish cooperative forum resulting in collaboration to continue defining, developing, and securing programs aimed at furthering MTConnect standard. AIA Claims FY15 Budget poses challenges for NextGen program.

March 13, 2014

Responding to President Obama's fiscal year 2015 budget request, AIA's Marion C. Blakey brought up FAA programs facing challenges. She noted Next Generation Air Transportation System modernization program, saying funding cuts pose new obstacles to meeting milestones. "The economic benefits of the NextGen program far outweigh the nominal budget gains that would be realized if the proposed cuts are enacted," said Blakey who also cited risks to safety, environment, and U.S. competitiveness. Web-Based Tool aims to improve building energy performance.

NREL has developed a web-based tool to help users better understand energy performance of building-related products. The Technology Performance Exchange™ portal helps manufacturers and other organizations that measure and test products share performance data with product consumers. TPEx helps to reduce analysis uncertainty through use of data entry forms, which are standardized documents that identify minimum product-specific parameters needed to evaluate energy performance. AIA Urges Security Threats to be Considered for FY15 budget.

In her statement regarding release of President's Budget Request for the Department of Defense, AIA's Marion C. Blakey cited Secretary Hagel's comment on choice between smaller but more technologically advanced military and retaining current size but not creating and deploying new capabilities. Blakey called allotted $154 billion "far less than what we need to maintain technological superiority" and noted that "these caps will force bad choices at a time of increasing global instability."
