FAA Makes Statement concerning Huerta v. Pirker appeal.

March 17, 2014

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued notice appealing decision by NTSB Administrative Law Judge in Huerta v. Pirker civil penalty case. Regarding its reasons for doing so, FAA stated its concern "that this decision could impact the safe operation of the national airspace system and the safety of people and property on the ground." Appealing decision of NTSB Administrative Law Judge to full National Transportation Safety Board will stay said decision until Board rules. Read More

FAA Reveals Republic of Azerbaijan has Category 1 rating.

As announced by FAA, Republic of Azerbaijan complies with international safety standards set by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and has been granted Category 1 rating. This rating, based on October 2013 FAA review of State Civil Aviation Authority of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SCAA), subsequent meetings, and previous FAA visit to Republic of Azerbaijan in February, means Republic of Azerbaijan air carriers can add flights and service to USA and carry code of U.S. carriers. NTSB Determines Cause of WV natural gas pipeline rupture, fire.

March 17, 2014

According to report released by NTSB, 2012 rupture of a Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation natural gas pipeline in West Virginia was caused by external corrosion that could have been discovered by pipeline operator. Said pipeline had not been inspected or tested since 1988. If it had been inspected with inline tool, NTSB claims the rupture would likely have been avoided. NTSB Chairman Deborah A.P. Hersman emphasized importance of inspection and testing in locating defects early. Read More

BIO Applauds Small Company Disclosure Simplification Act.

BIO applauded Representatives Robert Hurt (R-VA) and Terri Sewell (D-AL) for introducing Small Company Disclosure Simplification Act, which reforms existing eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) compliance regime to reduce regulatory burden on small businesses. As BIO President and CEO, Jim Greenwood thanked Hurt and Sewell and said "exempting EGCs from XBRL compliance...removes an expensive bureaucratic roadblock from the path of emerging biotech issuers." IPC Releases PCB Industry Results for January 2014.

As announced by IPC concerning January 2014 findings from monthly North American PCB Statistical Program, PCB sales and orders were below January 2013 levels. Book-to-bill ratio continues climbing but remains below parity at 0.95. Total North American PCB shipments decreased 7.5% from January 2013, and bookings came in at 3.7% below same month last year. Compared to December 2013, sales were down 16.9% and bookings were down 7.0% as based on same sample of reporting companies. Read More

NREL co-hosts 24th Colorado Science Bowl.

March 17, 2014

During the 24th Colorado Science Bowl, 6 northern Colorado teams made it to the final 16, and in the end, students from Boulder's Fairview High School beat out 47 other teams to claim victory. Students answered rapid-fire questions covering topics ranging from physics to math to earth and space science. Second place went to Douglas County High School, and northern Colorado's Poudre High School rounded out top finishers to take home third-place trophy. Read More
