Proposed Standard covers ion exchange oxygen removal cartridges.

Proposed standard ASTM WK39806, Practice for the Capacity of Ion Exchange Oxygen Removal Cartridge, will provide comprehensive approach to analyzing oxygen removal cartridges. Specifically, this standard, being developed by Subcommittee D19.08 on Membranes and Ion Exchange Materials, will help determine exchange capacity of ion exchange oxygen removal cartridge used to remove dissolved oxygen from water. EPA announces selected grant recipients.

U.S. EPA announced selection of 240 recipients recommended to receive $62.5 million in grants to protect people's health and the environment in local communities. These investments, funded by EPA’s Brownfields Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup (ARC) grants, target under-served and economically disadvantaged neighborhoods, providing funding necessary to assess, cleanup, and redevelop contaminated properties, boost local economies, and leverage jobs. EPA Announces Grants for reduction of diesel engine emissions.

May 20, 2013

U.S. EPA announced availability of up to $9 million in grants through National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program (DERA) for Fiscal Year 2013 for new projects to reduce emissions from existing fleet of diesel engines. States, tribes, local governments, and non-profits are eligible. Projects can reduce air pollution from school buses, transit buses, heavy-duty trucks, marine engines, locomotives, and other diesel engines. Closing date for receipt of proposals is June 25, 2013. IPC ESTC offers opportunities for standards development.

During IPC Electronic System Technologies Conference, May 21-22, electronics professionals will have new venue for collaboration on IPC standards. IPC’s Requirements for Structural Enclosure Task Group will evaluate submissions for IPC-A-630, Acceptability Standard for the Design, Manufacture, Inspection and Testing of Electronic Enclosures. IPC’s Wire Harness Acceptability Task Group will work on an amendment to IPC/WHMA-A-620B, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies. Read More

SMTA and IPC to co-locate fall events.

IPC and the Surface Mount Technology Association announced the finalized agreement to co-locate the SMTA International Conference and Exhibition with the IPC Fall Standards Development Committee Meetings for 2013, 2014, and 2015. SMTA International will be held October 13–17, 2013, while IPC Fall Standards Meetings will be held October 12–17, 2013 at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Read More

BIO thanks representatives for energy title amendment.

BIO thanked Reps. Timothy Walz (D-MN), Cheri Bustos (D-IL), Ann Kuster, (D-NH), William Enyart (D-IL), and Mike McIntyre (D-NC) for sponsoring amendment to provide mandatory funding to energy title programs in HR 1947, the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013. BIO lauded House of Representatives for passing H.R. 701, which accelerates implementation of key capital formation provision in Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act. Bill gives U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) deadline to complete rulemaking on reforms to Regulation A, which will, according to BIO's Jim Greenwood, "spur fundraising for emerging biotech companies, for which a $50 million capital influx could support groundbreaking research and stimulate job creation." Recently approved ASTM F2957, Specification for Ornamental Aluminum Fence Systems, defines minimum selection criteria and test procedures to ensure proper end-product manufacture. Also approved, ASTM F3000/F3000M, Specification for Polymer Privacy Insert Slats for Chain Link Fabric and Privacy Chain Link Fabric Manufactured Containing Pre-Installed Privacy Slats, provides configurations and materials to be used as well as fence framework construction instructions.
