FAA announces Philippines' aviation safety rating.

FAA announced that the Republic of the Philippines complies with international safety standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization and has been granted a Category 1 rating. The country previously held a Category 1 rating until January 2008, when it was downgraded to Category 2. With International Aviation Safety Assessment Category 1 rating, Republic of the Philippines’ air carriers can add flights and service to the United States and carry the code of U.S. carriers. IPC releases Conflict Minerals Data Exchange Standard.

IPC, working with Automotive Industry Action Group, Conflict-Free Sourcing Initiative, and Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association, published IPC-1755 Conflict Minerals Data Exchange Standard, to help suppliers and customers effectively facilitate conflict minerals data exchange along global supply chain. Standard includes terms and definitions, descriptions of declaration classes, data requirements for conflict minerals declaration, and verification guidance. Read More

AIA encouraged by SASC member meeting on sequestration.

Aerospace Industries Association is encouraged by the news that members of the Senate Armed Services Committee are meeting to discuss solutions to the threat posed to national security by indiscriminate budget cuts under sequestration during fiscal years 2016 through 2019. Senior Pentagon leaders have repeatedly warned that failure to address sequestration would impact readiness, troop levels, and modernization, leading to unacceptable loss in military capabilities. NTSB Chairman to speak at National Press Club breakfast.

Deborah A.P. Hersman, outgoing NTSB Chairman, will speak about her tenure at the NTSB during National Press Club breakfast on April 21. Hersman, who has led the safety agency for 5 of her 10 years on the board, has been recognized as a leading safety advocate across all modes of transportation. A4A applauds approval of Shuster-DeFazio legislation.

A4A applauded House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's passage of legislation ensuring airline customers are aware of exactly how much of their ticket price goes to federal taxes and still know full price of travel before they purchase. Transparent Airfares Act of 2014, introduced by Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) and Representative Peter DeFazio (D-OR), would end ability for government to bury ticket tax hikes in advertised prices by reversing DOT's misguided Full Fare Advertising Rule. SME announces new manager of AM and 3D printing.

SME announced addition of Kevin Ayers as industry manager of additive manufacturing and 3D printing. In this newly created role, Ayers will develop and manage all SME activities associated with additive manufacturing. Ayers joins SME after 30 years with the FBI in its manufacturing lab, and has been an active member and volunteer leader with SME’s Rapid Technologies & Additive Manufacturing Community, as well as SME’s RAPID event.
