ATA welcomes Drivewyze as Featured Product.

ATA announced it has added Drivewyze PreClear weigh station bypass service into its roster of Featured Products. Drivewyze PreClear subscription services offer fleets the opportunity to earn up to a 98% weigh station bypass rate, depending on their safety records. AEM Actively Supports National Fall Prevention Stand-Down.

AEM is actively supporting National Fall Prevention Stand-Down, which is being held June 2–6 to promote awareness among construction industry employers and workers about seriousness of fall hazards. Resources available for industry use can be found on National Safety Stand-Down section of federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) website. GPC Launches Program to certify sustainable parking garages.

Green Parking Council (GPC), affiliate of International Parking Institute (IPI), launched Green Garage Certification program, which will recognize and inspire high standards in sustainable parking facility design, technology, operations, and management. According to GPC Executive Director Paul Wessel, Green Garage Certification provides roadmap and assessment tool with which to "strive toward a more environmentally and economically sustainable future." Laser Sensing Technology offers lower power, longer distance.

Able to remotely sense objects across distances as long as 30 ft, 3D imaging technology developed by researchers at University of California, Berkeley, could (with further development) be used to make smaller, inexpensive 3D imaging systems that offer maximized range for such potential uses as self-driving cars, smartphones, and interactive video games without requiring bulky boxes of electronics or optics. EPA funds university research on cleaner fuel burning.

World Health Organization estimates that cookstove smoke accounts for over 4 million premature deaths annually. EPA has announced new funding for 6 universities to research cleaner technologies and fuels for cooking, lighting, and heating homes that will help improve air quality and protect the health of Alaska Natives and people across the developing world. Researchers at universities in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, and Minnesota will receive $9 million in grant funding. Read More

EPA selects 171 communities for Brownfield investment grants.

June 3, 2014

EPA announced that 171 communities will receive 264 grants totaling $67 million in Brownfields funding to clean and redevelop contaminated properties, boost local economies, and leverage jobs while protecting public health and the environment. Several projects were selected to address sites identified in their Brownfields Area Wide Planning projects, including Lowell, MA, which will focus on revitalizing an Industrial Park and Toledo, OH, which will clean up an old transmission plant.
