Water Infrastructure Investment increases equipment demand, jobs.

According to AED Chairman Tim Watters, Sustainable Water Infrastructure Investment Act (H.R. 4237/S. 2345) will spur economic growth and job creation within construction equipment industry by generating up to $6 billion in demand and supporting nearly 1,000 employees over next decade. “The time is long overdue for substantial investment in water infrastructure projects," said Watters. This bill would lift state volume cap on private activity bonds for such projects. Read More

SPE Thermoforming Division seeks entries for its annual Parts Competition, which showcases latest advances in thermoforming design and application, and submission deadline is August 15, 2014. NEMA Commends Proposed EPA Rule for including energy efficiency.

Commending inclusion of energy efficiency as key provision in EPA's proposed rule to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from existing electric power plants, NEMA President and CEO Evan R. Gaddis praised notion that energy efficiency is included as part of USA's climate change strategy. By letting states use energy efficiency as means of compliance, proposed rule could increase demand for efficient electrical products that, in turn, support manufacturing sector jobs. Read More

Lasers and Night-Vision Technology help image lymphatic system.

Researchers at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School developed near-infrared fluorescence lymphatic imaging (NIRFLI) technology, which can non-invasively image human lymphatic system using fluorescent dye, commercially available laser diode, and military-grade night vision devices. At CLEO: 2014, UTHealth scientist John Rasmussen will describe how this technology has been taken from benchtop development to various clinical applications. Read More

Ryan Franks, NEMA Energy Storage Technical Manager, was one of three people selected by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) as 2014 IEC Young Professional.
