AMT becomes RIA Certified Robot Integrator.

RIA announced that Applied Manufacturing Technologies has received RIA Certified Robot Integrator designation. In order to become certified, AMT completed rigorous process which includes an on-site audit and testing of key personnel among other important criteria. According to Jeff Burnstein, President of RIA, the Certified Robot Integrator program strengthens the overall integrator channel and allows integrators to benchmark their own processes against best industry practices. NEMA announced that Phallan K. Davis has joined its staff as its first public relations specialist. To advance interests of NEMA's 400-plus member companies, Davis will raise NEMA's profile to media, government, and other external sources for matters pertaining to electroindustry, including Smart Grid, storm and disaster recovery, and how to reduce product's carbon footprint. BIO Convention to address China's growing biotech sector.

New ISO Standards are available from NFPA.

NFPA has made available 2 new ISO standards: ISO 1179-1:2013 and ISO 1179-2:2013. ISO 1179-1:2013 specifies dimensions for ports with ISO 228-1 threads for use with non-adjustable stud ends in ISO 1179-2/-3/-4 and adjustable stud ends in ISO 1179-3. ISO 1179-2:2013 specifies dimensions, performance requirements, and test procedures for heavy-duty (S series) and light-duty (L series) stud ends with ISO 228-1 threads and elastomeric sealing (type E) used with them. Judge Rules on RIA vs. ThermaPure, TPE Associates, Hedman.

November 12, 2013

In January 2013, Restoration Industry Association (RIA) filed suit in U.S. District Court against David Hedman and ThermaPure to invalidate patents held by ThermaPure, TPE Associates, and Hedman. Defendants argued that since they had never sought to enforce those other patents and there is no indication at this time that they have attempted to enforce them, those counts should be dismissed. Judge James V. Selna agreed and dismissed all patents from case except U.S. Patent No. 6,327,812. Read More

Federal Facilities earn Energy Star CHP Award.

November 12, 2013

EPA recognized two federal facilities with ENERGY STAR Combined Heat and Power Award for their highly efficient CHP systems, which increase reliability of electricity supply while reducing carbon pollution. National Archives and Records Administration CHP system achieved an operating efficiency of 72%. Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany CHP system, using renewable landfill gas to produce energy that supports essential base operations, saves approximately $1.3 million annually in energy costs. ASTM approves Environmental Site Assessment revisions.

ASTM International Committee E50 on Environmental Assessment, Risk Management and Corrective Action has issued revised version of ASTM E1527, Practice for Environmental Site Assessments: Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Process. Standard describes Phase I ESA process, a tool used to conduct research to identify potential for releases of hazardous substances or petroleum products that could lead to liability to new property owners if not identified, evaluated, addressed, and properly managed. IPC PCB Statistical Program reports slower than expected growth.

November 12, 2013

IPC® announced September 2013 findings from its North American PCB Statistical Program; sales and order growth remained slow, and book-to-bill ratio slipped below parity to 0.98. Total North American PCB shipments decreased 0.7% from September 2012, and year-to-date (YTD) shipment growth, while still negative compared to same period in 2012, rose to -3.5%. North American PCB bookings increased 3.1% year over year (Y/Y), bringing YTD growth to -0.6%. Read More

FAA issues final rule on pilot training.

November 12, 2013

As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance safety and put the best qualified and trained pilots in the flight decks of U.S. airplanes, FAA issued final rule that will significantly advance the way commercial air carrier pilots are trained. Final rule requires ground and flight training that enables pilots to prevent and recover from aircraft stalls and upsets; training for more effective pilot monitoring; enhanced runway safety procedures; and expanded crosswing training.
