AMT announces dates for Smartforce Student Summit.

AMT has announced that the Smartforce Student Summit will take place Sept 8-13, during the week of IMTS 2014, which will be held in Chicago. SPI appoints sales agent for NPE2015 in Latin America.

SPI has appointed Montesino Technologies, Inc. as the sales agent for NPE2015 throughout Latin America. Produced by SPI, NPE2015 will take place on March 23–27, 2015 in Orlando, FL. Montesino is responsible for sales of exhibit space to Latin American companies and for supporting SPI’s program to attract more visitors from the region than for the previous NPE in 2012, which had record-breaking attendance by Latin Americans. ASTM Sensory Evaluation Committee invites active participation.

Participation in encouraged for all parties interested in standards developing activities of Subcommittee E18.05 on Sensory Applications--General, which is responsible for sensory evaluation standard ASTM E1958, Guide for Sensory Claim Substantiation. Topics currently under discussion for future revisions include moving from regional to representative sampling as well as inclusion of new section on documentation in case of legal challenge. EPA is adding 9 hazardous waste sites that pose risks to people's health and the environment to the National Priorities List of Superfund sites. BIO thanked Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works for holding hearing on Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and EPA's proposed rule for 2014. Proposed Standard addresses vacuum cleaner air performance. .

ASTM WK14392, Test Method for Evaluating the Sustained Air Performance and Exhaust Emissions of Central Vacuum Cleaning Units, is being developed by Subcommittee F11.22 on Air Performance, part of Committee F11 on Vacuum Cleaners. Standard will test how vacuum performance will be affected after multiple vacuuming events over extended period of time. It will help identify areas in which manufacturers may be able to improve designs and provide sensible advertising claims based on industry test. Read More

ASTM Standard helps assure implantable medical device safety.

ASTM WK19883, Test Method for Conducting and Evaluating Galvanic Corrosion Tests of Medical Implant Devices, is being developed by Subcommittee F04.15 on Material Test Methods. Cardiovascular, orthopedic, neurovascular, and dental implants will be evaluated using this standard. Making sure these devices do not experience galvanic corrosion helps assure they are biocompatible and can function as intended in the human body without degrading or eliciting an unwanted response. BIO says EPA's proposal will increase greenhouse gas emissions.

December 17, 2013

EPA's 2014 proposed rule for the Renewable Fuel Standard, which would for the first time cut biofuel use, will require using more petroleum and increase emissions of greenhouse gases. BIO utilized GREET1.2013 model to estimate changes in petroleum demand and associated CO2 equivalent emissions from both 2013 and statutory RFS levels for 2014. According to estimates, EPA proposal will result in an increase of more than 23 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. Read More

ASTM D7888, Practice for Evaluating Adhesive and the Effects of Plasticizer Found Within Polyvinylchloride-Backed Floor Coverings, was developed by Subcommittee D14.10 on Working Properties, part of ASTM International Committee D14 on Adhesives.
