NEMA calls Congress to action on energy efficiency.

Recently, the House of Representatives has passed bills to streamline administration of funding support for energy efficiency retrofits of schools (HR 4092) and to report on likely energy and water efficiency gains of thermal insulation of potable hot and chilled water in federal buildings (HR 4801). NEMA is calling for the Senate to pass the bipartisan Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act (S 2262) sponsored by Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Rob Portman (R-OH). Read More

IPC and HKPCA renew show partnership for next 4 years.

Following successful 2013 International Printed Circuit & APEX South China Fair, IPC and Hong Kong Printed Circuit Association are extending their alliance to host the event for another 4 years. Introduction of the IPC APEX brand last year helped strengthen the exhibit scope as it catered to the rapid market development of the electronics manufacturing services sector in the country. Wearable Device detects diabetic neuropathy.

Group of researchers in Taiwan has developed optical technology that may be able to detect diabetic autonomic neuropathy sooner, when it is more easily treated. Condition progressively affects autonomic nerves controlling vital organs like the heart and gastrointestinal system. Described in paper published in OSA’s journal Applied Optics, the new technology is a small, wearable device called a pupillometer that hangs on a pair of eyeglasses and measures 5 parameters associated with pupils. HUD Begins Adoption Process for several 2012 AAMA standards.

July 29, 2014

American Architectural Manufacturers Association's (AAMA) current standards pertaining to fenestration in manufactured housing – 1701.2-12, 1702.2-12, and 1704-12 – have been recommended for adoption by Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee (MHCC) to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Praising this as "a major victory," AAMA certification manager Rich Rinka said change from currently standards would not happen "without MHCC's blessing." Read More

EPA Furthers Tribal Health Research through ~$5 million in grants.

EPA is awarding tribal environmental health research grants to 6 groups, including universities and tribes, to identify and reduce tribal health risks associated with climate change, indoor wood smoke exposure, environmental asthma, waterborne diseases, and other concerns. Recipients include Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, Yurok Tribe, Little Big Horn College, University of Tulsa, and University of Massachusetts Amherst.
