TRIB to Give Away Retreaded Tires during 2012 trucking show.

Tire Retread and Repair Information Bureau (TRIB) is expanding "Spot The Retreads" competition at Mid-America Trucking Show, which takes place March 22-24 in Louisville, KY. Visitors to booth 13036 can enter to try and correctly identify range of new and retreaded tires. Participants who correctly identify all tires will be entered into daily drawings for sets of 8 commercial truck tires to be retreaded on participants' own casings. Total value of all prizes exceeds $10,000. Read More

Hydraulic Institute recognizes Fred Walker for his contributions.

Fred Walker, VP Engineering, Weir Floway, Inc., was recognized by Hydraulic Institute for his technical leadership and contributions in creation of ANSI/HI Standards. Mr. Walker was Chair of committee which produced Rotodynamic Pumps for Assessment of Applied Nozzle Loads, ANSI/HI 9.6.2-2011. New standard contains explanatory information regarding criteria for pump nozzle loading allowances and includes more detail regarding material requirements for pump casings and hold-down bolts. Presented in conjunction with World Standards Week, 2012 Leadership and Service Awards recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to voluntary consensus standardization and conformity assessment programs and have consistently demonstrated commitment to industry, nation, and enhancement of global standards system. ANSI's Roy Swift speaks at National Credentialing Summit.

Roy Swift, Ph.D., ANSI's senior director of personnel credentialing accreditation programs, was a featured speaker and panelist at National Credentialing Summit. Titled Paving the Way Ahead, summit brought together stakeholders to examine licensing and credentialing in private sector and to discuss what can be done to help U.S. veterans use military experience to qualify for civilian jobs. Dr. Swift provided keynote presentation on value that accreditation adds to credentialing process. Read More

ASTM Weathering Committee names Joe S. Robbins III chairman.

Joe S. Robbins III, CEO of Arizona Desert Testing LLC, has been named chairman of ASTM International Committee G03 on Weathering and Durability, which oversees 32 international standards related to durability and performance of organic/inorganic nonmetallic materials, components, and combined assemblies subjected to various environments. Robbins, who joined ASTM in 1984, works on several G03 subcommittee and chairs Subcommittee G03.02 on Natural and Environmental Exposure Tests. Read More

Nonresidential Construction Spending slips in January.

March 14, 2012

According to March 1 report by U.S. Commerce Department, total nonresidential construction spending decreased 0.8% in January to $566.4 billion. However, total nonresidential construction spending was up 7.9% from January 2011. Private nonresidential construction spending was down 1.5% for the month, but was 16.6% higher than one year ago. In addition, public nonresidential construction spending was down 0.1% for January, but was up 0.4% from same time last year. Read More

ASABE revises agricultural equipment standard.

Revised standard, ANSI/ASAE S279.16, Lighting and Marking of Agricultural Equipment on Highways, corrects an inconsistency in the equation for measuring spectrophotometric color values of fluorescent materials. An additional change was also made to clarify nonreflective fluorescent material verses fluorescent material. Read More
