Nominees Sought for 2012 AIM Awards.

AIM announced call for nominees for 2012 Automatic Identification and Mobility industry awards, which will be presented during AIM Summit on September 10, 2012 in Rosemont, IL. Awards include Dilling and Percival Awards, for contributions to Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC); Ted Williams Award, for helping further growth of automatic identification and mobility industry; and Excellence in Journalism Award, for promoting understanding via unbiased communications. Power Systems Conference will focus on energy-optimized aircraft.

To be held in Mesa, AZ from October 30 to November 1, SAE 2012 Power Systems Conference will highlight technology in transition in military and commercial aerospace as well as other military power system applications. Focus will be on Energy Optimized Aircraft (EOA): bringing avionics, systems, and engines together in optimized way. 2012 Battery Symposium to be held in May.

EWI and the Ohio State Center for Automotive Research (CAR) are hosting 2012 Battery Symposium: Life, Reliability and Manufacturing on May 2-3, 2012 in Columbus. During event, EWI will present latest trends in advanced battery assembly, including material selection, joint design, welding, nondestructive evaluation, and design for disassembly. Speakers from Ohio State and CAR Technologies will discuss links between characterization, testing, and lifetimes of batteries. Read More

AAMA releases updated specification for anodized aluminum.

Updated from 1998 version, AMA 611-12, Voluntary Specification for Anodized Architectural Aluminum, describes test procedures and requirements for high performance (Class I) and commercial (Class II) architectural quality aluminum oxide coatings applied to aluminum extrusions and panels for architectural products. Specification also covers anodized finishes produced in batch or continuous coil. Read More

Standard will improve radiometry-related uncertainty estimates.

Proposed standard, ASTM WK36479, Practice for Uncertainty Evaluation of Calibration and Measurements with Pyranometers and Pyrheliometers, is being developed by Subcommittee G03.09 on Radiometry, part of Committee G03 on Weathering and Durability. Standard will improve accuracy and usefulness of radiometry-related uncertainty estimates in solar renewable energy applications, such as system performance and acceptance testing, resource assessment, and solar energy system design engineering. IPC APEX EXPO 2013 space selection process to begin in May.

Number of exhibitor contracts for IPC APEX EXPO® 2013 is nearing double-digit growth over same time last year. According to IPC Sales Director Mary Mac Kinnon, 111,300 ft² has been contracted to date. Event will take place February 19-21 at San Diego Convention Center, and IPC will begin space selection process on May 22. Mac Kinnon stated, "Our number one priority is to ensure that our exhibitors and attendees have the best and most comfortable environment to conduct and grow business." Read More

EPRI's Distribution System Simulator supports GIC simulation.

OpenDSS software is a comprehensive electrical power system simulation tool for electric utility industry, and supports nearly all frequency domain analyses commonly performed on electric utility power distribution systems. In joint effort with North American Electric Reliability Corporation and other utility participants, EPRI has improved capability of OpenDSS program to include simulation of geomagnetically induced currents in network transmission systems.
