IPC releases PCB industry results for May 2012.

According to IPC's North American PCB Statistical Program, rigid PCB shipments were down 1.9% in May 2012 from May 2011, but bookings increased 12.0% year over year. Flexible circuit shipments were down 10.0%, and bookings were down 1.1% compared to May 2011. For rigid PCBs and flexible circuits combined, shipments in May 2012 decreased 2.6% from May 2011 and orders booked increased 10.6% from May 2011. Book-to-bill ratios for rigid PCBs and flexible circuits were 1.02 and 1.17, respectively. Read More

Program committee for MIM2013, International Conference on Injection Molding of Metals, Ceramics, and Carbides, has issued Call for Presentations for abstracts pertaining to Advances in Component Uniformity focus. Abstracts of 100-150 words are requested by September 30, 2012, covering metal injection molding topics such as processing, materials, and applications. PMMI has partnered with Midwest and Great Lakes chapters of International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) to supply pharmaceutical insight at PACK EXPO International 2012, which takes place October 28-31 in Chicago, IL. As part of The Rx Lounge, 2 ISPE chapters will be on hand to answer questions about pharmaceutical manufacturing. FL Leaders, Community warn against sequestration budget cuts.

Rep. Bill Posey (R-Fla.), AAR Chairman/CEO David P. Storch, Space Coast business community leaders, and 250+ local workers rallied in Melbourne, FL to warn against threat to U.S. economic and military strength posed by $500 billion in sequestration budget cuts scheduled for January 2013. AIA-commissioned study found Florida could lose 39,246 jobs if Congress does not act to stop such cuts. Speakers said action needs to be taken this summer to enact alternative means of deficit reduction. Read More

AIM's RFID Emblem is approved for registration by ISO.

AIM has been appointed by ISO as registration authority for RFID Emblem standard, which provides visible identification method for RFID transponders, interrogators, and tagged items. Adopted as ISO/IEC 29160 Information technology - Radio frequency identification for item management - RFID Emblem, it is public-domain object to augment other emblems and logos such as recycling and CE. Standard includes 2-char code, RFID Index, that can be included in RFID Emblem graphic. Read More

EPA proposes updates for 2010 cement standards.

In response to federal court ruling and data from industry, U.S. EPA is proposing changes to its 2010 air standards for Portland cement manufacturing industry. Proposal would continue significant emission reductions from 2010 standards while providing industry additional compliance flexibilities, including more time to implement proposed updates by extending compliance date for existing cement kilns from September 2013 to September 2015. IPC APEX EXPO named in Top 25 Fastest-Growing Trade Shows.

IPC APEX EXPO® has been named one of the Trade Show News Network 2012 "Top 25 Fastest-growing Trade Shows in Attendance in the United States." According to Tony Hilvers, IPC Vice President of Industry Programs, the show met or surpassed all attendance and exhibition goals in 2012 and is now 90% sold out for 2013 with 11% more square footage sold than at the same time in 2012. EPA Releases Guidance on fuel availability provisions for ships.

U.S. EPA interim guidance for ship owners and operators clarifies how U.S. government will implement fuel availability provisions when ships are unable to obtain fuel that meets standards protecting against sulfur pollution along coast. Content includes background information on North American ECA fuel sulfur standards, how vessel owners/operators can establish compliance with requirements, and how those incapable of obtaining compliant fuel oil can make fuel oil non-availability claim.
