Michael Rosenblatt to deliver BIO convention keynote in China.

Michael Rosenblatt, M.D., executive VP and chief medical officer for Merck, will deliver keynote address at BIO Convention in China, which will take place October 24-25, 2012 in Shanghai. According to BIO executive VP of Emerging Companies and Business Development Alan Eisenberg, Rosenblatt's academic, industrial, and global public health experience qualifies him to talk about opportunities and challenges associated with biopharma research and development in China and the West. NIST Website addresses alternatives to mercury thermometers.

As part of larger effort to reduce amount of mercury, a potent neurotoxin, in the environment, NIST has launched a website to help industry scientists and engineers decide on best temperature measurement alternative for their purposes. Obama Administration aims to close racial/ethnic gap on asthma.

U.S. federal agencies unveiled Coordinated Federal Action Plan to Reduce Racial and Ethnic Asthma Disparities. Plan will work to identify children, families, and communities most impacted by asthma disparities and ensure that they receive evidence-based comprehensive care, including access to medical services, education, and environmental interventions. Action plan will also aim to increase understanding of causes of asthma and test interventions that may prevent onset. Read More

EPRI Report addresses retail electric rate structures.

Technology today makes it easier for utilities to provide different types of electricity pricing plans to consumers. EPRI is collaborating with key industry stakeholders to develop system for characterizing and comparing different retail electric pricing plans. EPRI's report provides language and rate structure descriptions needed to bring all stakeholders onto same page, as well as provide educational materials for newer utility personnel. Read More

ASTM International approves carpet adhesives standard.

ASTM D7799, Specification for Tufted and Woven Broadloom Carpet Adhesives Without Homogenous PVC or Non-PVC Backings, was developed by Subcommittee D14.70 on Construction Adhesives, part of ASTM International Committee D14 on Adhesives. Specification establishes minimum requirements for adhesives used for installation of tufted or woven broadloom carpet, within climate controlled structure, when adhered directly and permanently to structurally sound and recommended substrate. According to results from PT Distributor Performance Report, high-profit power transmission distribution firms had sales of $35.8 million in 2011 and pre-tax profit of 6.8%. Report examines distributor performance trends in several categories including return on investment, income statement, and balance sheet line items.
